    Steve Nash announces retirement

    By Baxter Holmes, ESPNLosAngeles.com

After a 19-year NBA career in which he twice won MVP honors, tallied the third-most assists in league history and assured his place in the Hall of Fame as one of the greatest point guards ever to play the game, Steve Nash formally announced he is walking away from the game Saturday in a letter published on The Player's Tribune website.

"The greatest gift has been to be completely immersed in my passion and striving for something I loved so much -- visualizing a ladder, climbing up to my heroes," Nash wrote. "The obsession became my best friend. I talked to her, cherished her, fought with her and got knocked on my ass by her.

It's too bad his career had to end the way it did.

Put basketball on the map in Canada. Don't care what jersey he wore, he was a great ambassador for Canada.

    Thanks MasterShake!!!

We only cared about him to the extent that we did because he was white. He never deserved the MVP and was a puny finesse player. I'm glad he never got a ring. The game will be better without him.

    Incredibly ignorant remark.

I usually like your post but that was just stupid.

    You're high.

2 time MVP, top 10 PG and 3rd all time in assist.

He won the MVP because he was white. He's considered to be a top ten PG because he's white. He got his assists during a soft ass era of basketball. Let's see what his numbers would be like if all the power forwards and centers could have been touched when they were in the paint. He was celebrated and cherished because old white sportswriters wanted to see a white boy get some love in a league that was almost all black. He got his MVP's during an era where the writers just refused to send them to Kobe Bryant until late in his career. Are you kidding me? Get this overrated sack of shit out of the Association.
