Default John Harbaugh: Joe Flacco is NFL's best quarterback

PITTSBURGH -- John Harbaugh was in the perfect position to double down on his beliefs that he has the best quarterback in football.

They are not popular beliefs, of course, and there's a good chance Harbaugh himself would snag another if he had a choice and no personal feelings to consider.

But after a win against the Steelers in Pittsburgh? After Joe Flacco was efficient and cool for four quarters? Now is the time for the victory lap, especially after the reaction he received for saying it just a few days prior.

He knows the NFL's more than just the AFCN, right? Rodgers is the leagues best QB, and it's not even close; he's got the whole package: Power, accuracy, vision, reads, release, scrambling and outright rushing ability. He matches or exceeds all strengths of anyone who could be compared to him, with OTHER strengths they lack. Makes me miss Favre, 'cause the Pack's among the teams I hate most.

I know one thing, he sure does play better in the postseason than our QB does.

Our didn't get his whole line rebuilt two years ago, just rotated one half a year ago. And ours hasn't had many bad postseason performances, just many bad supporting casts: No D in Indy, no line in Denver. The pros aren't college, so one great player can't beat a great TEAM as Vince Young did to USC; you can scheme for one guy, and if he has no help, that's it, which is what happened in the last SB.

Flacco's had a great D, reliable run game and solid line. Give Manning all those things and I guarantee his postseason record's far better, but oh, well....

Perhaps in the past, but not this year. Manning does have a great supporting cast around him that includes a good defense. I don't really have any excuses for Manning this go around. I did have my doubts about Denver's defense last year holding up through the playoffs. They were suspect at times, but Manning outplayed our deficiencies; that is, until the Super Bowl happened. But our defense is way better this playoffs. No damn excuses for Manning. Even if you consider the O-line being suspect in pass protection the last month of the season. They've had a week to rest and another to prepare before we kick this thing off. Again, no excuses. Even if we have to go through New England, we are the most talented team in the NFL. We should win the bloody damn NFL Championship this year.

A team can't just drop the whole offense on one guy, however great, especially if the line can't close holes for him any better than it OPENS them for his RBs. That was evident long before last years SB; globally broadcasting just made it glaringly obvious to people in Botswana, so now every coach in the league is keenly aware of it. Again, teams can scheme for just one guy, which is just what Seattle did with Manning last February, and with no run support to draw safeties and LBs out of coverage or slow down pass rushers by forcing them to look over their shoulder, that was the ball game.

Our line's not just suspect in pass protection, but GUILTY of bad blocking, passing AND running. A six-man team can't beat an eleven-man team. Too bad we didn't draft/sign any of the tons of quality linemen available in last years draft and FA rather than just reshuffling the same hand despite having just seen just how awful it is. Oh, well, at least there's always next year, right? http://tinyurl.com/qg5lauq

The day we signed him though, I resigned myself to Manning being the scapegoat for an awful line if we never won a championship with him though. We either use Mannings infamous (but undeserved) playoff narrative to blame the hired gun we loved to hate when his "bad postseasons" shelled us by 30 pts two different seasons, or the Executive VP of Football Operations who paid through the nose to bring him to a team without the supporting cast EVERYONE needs for a championship. Not much doubt who'll fall/get pushed on that grenade.

Sad thing is, whether we blame Manning for being a choker, the line for being loafers and/or Fox for not getting both of them to play up to the ability, all are personnel decisions made the same place. Regardless, an offense with no line's no offense; it needs balance so opponents can't sell out on a one-dimensional game plan and ignore the nonexistent run/pass threat, and if it can't block it can't run, pass nor even PUNT anyway. Remember when NE nearly blocked one of our punts—then returned it for a TD instead? That Mannings fault, or his great supporting casts?

I don't care if Flacco is or isn't. I just want him to be the NFL's best quarterback next Saturday. After that, he can revert to a pumpkin.

I keep telling ya'll: The "reward" for letting someone else beat teams you can't is PLAYING the team that beat the team that beat you. Didn't work in '05, won't now: Champions make their own destiny. If the Ravens bulldoze NE in Foxborough, that's NOT a good omen for us facing them in Denver (and we must still beat Indy anyway, so hopefully aren't distracted by a "guaranteed" home AFCCG.)

Other than the year he won the Super Bowl....his stats were absolutely HORRENDOUS in the post season. So far, Flacco has had one good post season.
