IDK about Thanksgiving. We do Turkey Day w/ my wife's family and X-Mas with mine. My mom and her husband are both in their mid 70's. They're both stubborn and not about to change now. They protect each other. They are sheltered and it just would not be worth an engagement over food.

I understand your wife, and love it. But you're right, it's not worth it.

Somebody needs to hijack his Tupperware while he's not looking.

Christmas Eve is seafood bake with clams, mussels, shrimp, crab, lobster, corn, sausage, veg...
christmas day is turkey, ham, brussel sprouts, sweet potato, vegetables.

Take out the good stuff and leave a note that not everyone had their fill. So he would have to complain making him look like an even bigger dick.

Dave your beetroot avocado salad sounds interesting. I love me some beets.

We have a ribeye roast, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, asparagus, homemade peppermint ice cream with hot fudge for desert. Christmas Eve will be traditional New Mexican fare. Enchiladas, tamales, beans, posole, etc. Green and red chile of course, home made tortillas, all that good stuff.

From your posts, am i right in saying that Turkey is not the most popular meal on Christmas day on your side of the atlantic?

I think its pretty common, actually. Most folks I know think its weird that I eat roast beef; my wife had never heard of such a thing. Lasagna was her Christmas dinner

I'm amazed at how many folks are having Yorkshire Pudding.

A few years ago we had a similar thread, and seems like most folks (besides Dread) didn't know what Yorkshire Pudding was.

Grandma is from Scotland. We have it every year, although I admit at first I thought it was the gravy and not the breaded "bowl".

Your German apple pancake is making an encore performance at our house Thursday. My wife was boasting about it on facebook

That is one of my favorites.

There is a "Pancake House" back home in Liberal Kansas that is an awesome breakfast diner. They do one there. I searched for years for a recipe that replicates their apple pancake. That one is it. The only different thing that the pancake house back home does is that they have a cinnamon syrup to put on it. It's a light syrup (not maple) reddish in color, and cinnamon flavored.
