A spokesperson for the Carolina highway safety authority (HSA) has confirmed that Cam Newton has broken both of his legs in a traffic altercation. He has been transported via ambulance to a local Carolina hospital for treatment, and the full extent of his injuries are not known at this time, however, both of his legs were visibly broken and not life threatening according to sources.

The accident involved a 2012 BMW driven by Cam Newton and a 76 year old female driver in a 2010 Audi. The driver of the Audi was issued a citation for failing to stop at a red light before striking the vehicle driven by Cam Newton at a high rate of speed.

Team spokespersons could not be reached for comment at this time.

That's unfortunate. It reads almost exactly like the gag that gets thrown around on the Web every now and again. Crazy.

Was a New Orleans Saint somehow responsible?

They woudn't have his legs pinned down like this if they were broken, reports are now that there are no injuries to Cam and he tried to refuse hospital, but was taken as precautionary.

I think OB did post the gag. Newton isn't injured according to local TV, per ESPN.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

Details are few at the moment, but the crash included Newton’s car flipped over on a bridge and another involved, near the intersection of Church Street and I-277, close to Bank of America Stadium.

Dianne Gallagher of WCNC has a photograph of Newton being loaded into an ambulance, and Chris Littman of the Sporting News has a photo of Newton’s truck after it was flipped over, the top flattened.

Default Cam Newton injured in car crash

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was injured in a car accident on Tuesday afternoon.

A car crashed and overturned on the Church Street bridge over I-277 about 12:30 p.m. and ambulances were on the scene. A second car involved in the crash is also in the road, near Hill Street.

A man appearing to be Newton was seen strapped down to a stretcher, according to a WBTV report.

"We are closely monitoring the situation of a car wreck involving Cam Newton," the Panthers said in a statement. "We will have more information at an appropriate time."

Newton did not suffer life threatening injuries in the accident and was conscious when he was transported to the hospital, a source told ESPN's Ed Werder.
