I have seen plenty of rookie punters wash out in the NFL and you wonder why. What could be different between punting in the NFL and punting in college? Speed of play, for one. But mostly, the pros want kickers who can get the ball high enough for the return team to get into position to cover any possible return. Distance isn't the chief requirement. It's preventing long returns.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

Connor Barth says of his post-Achilles tear leg strength, "hopefully, it's stronger" because of the rehab work he put int.

    Andrew Mason @MaseDenver · 51m

Barth, on workouts: "All I really need is a light pole to kick at. If I can hit a light pole, I can usually put it (through) the uprights."

    Andrew Mason @MaseDenver · 52m

Connor Barth kept in shape by kicking at IMG Academy, his high school, &, on one occasion, he kicked "at a light pole on an open field."

    Vic Lombardi @VicLombardi · 2h

Barth just dropped the old reliable: "I'm taking it one kick at a time"

    Vic Lombardi @VicLombardi · 2h

Connor Barth calls Jason Elam an idol. It's why he chose number-one as his jersey. "Hopefully he's okay with it".

I'm not sure if you are serious with this question, but considering you are from across the pond, t maybe its just a difference in vocabulary?

A light pole is a pole that has electricity run to it, so that it can power lights.

Yeah, the lights themselves is what we call flood lights. The pole they sit on is the light pole.

However, I'm guessing that there wasn't a pole large enough to hole flood lights in the middle of the field that Barth was refering to. Most probably, an old pole that used to harbor some old street light or something simple.

Default Connor Barth ready to take his turn as Broncos kicker

    from article:

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The newest Denver Broncos player took part in his first practice with the expectation that he'd fix the team’s kicking game.

Connor Barth, signed Tuesday after a workout at the Broncos’ suburban complex, took part in his first practice Wednesday and is expected to be the Broncos kicker the rest of the way in whatever becomes of this season. He is the third place-kicker to hold the job since training camp opened.
    AND

“Went with the experience,’’ said Broncos coach John Fox. “Connor brings some of that. That position in this league is very tough first time around, I’ll just say that. Brandon’s got a future in this league he just needs to go back and work on his swing, so to speak, I think he’ll be back."

This discussion of poles keeps flirting with more than just disaster....
Oh, valid point. I thought you meant all starters, you should take the time to be more descriptive, don't be shy. Jaded
