Yeah, technically, but an E is in a C Chord, so it won't sound off if you hit it. In some chord progressions you might see C/E and that means the song is calling for the player to strum all six strings, a C with a root E included.
Same thing for a D chord, the open fifth string will ring with the chord, as an A is part of that D chord as the fifth, but an E (top string) is not and sounds awkward.
Also, G, Em, C, D is a LOT of songs.
By the way, DBfan, Back in Black is just E (down)-D (down, down)-A (down, down)...riff...
