Default Jay Feely to visit Broncos for kicking audition Tuesday

The Broncos are bringing in Jay Feely for a workout Tuesday, according to two NFL sources.

It's hardly a surprise given the inconsistency of Broncos first-year kicker Brandon McManus. With the Broncos on the short list of Super Bowl contenders, they could use a kicker with experience in crunch time.

McManus missed a 33-yard field-goal attempt Sunday in the Broncos' 39-36 victory against Miami and he ranks 31st among the 31 kickers ranked with a 69.2 field-goal percentage (nine-of-13).

Feely, 38, has kicked in 13 NFL seasons for five teams, most recently last season with the Arizona Cardinals.

The Broncos also will work out a second veteran kicker. Among the veterans available are Alex Henery, Garrett Hartley, Connor Barth, John Potter and Nate Kaeding.

If they hadn't totally screwed the pooch by cutting Prater they wouldn't be auditioning kickers in the 12th week of the season.

This move makes sense. Mc-Anus has sucked ass and was given a full shot. Time to move on from this mistake.

If Feely does take over and miss a kick the meltdown will be hilarious on here.

No question about that. It's just painful. WTF are they doing cutting their veteran kicker in the middle of the season? The time to cut him is AFTER the season when he's due a big pay-day.

Prater's stats with Detroit - 6 games played, 16 field goals attempted, 12 field goals made

I cut Elway some slack because our drunk kicker sort of forced his hand... You can't be a highly paid kicker and get suspended and put the team at risk. That said, I'd be interested to know ultimately what caused them to move on from Prater. Was it the fear that he was an ongoing team cancer drinking when he shouldn't be? Was it a money thing?

Hindsight is 20/20, but this move has obviously blown up in our face. Time to move on to anyone not named McManus.

Well, first of all he was on a suspension and not playing - it's not like they said "see ya" while he was on the roster or playing for that matter. Second, he was already making pretty big money for a kicker.

A MASSIVE 5 percentage points higher than McManus.

Can we dig up the graphic that the CBS guy made that showed Feely single handedly beating us in 2010?
