I caught this picture of my son #7 going up for his second pick in his semi final football game. Our team won 42-19 and are heading for there back to back super bowl win...GO RAGE!!!

Can throw the ball 30 yards and hit his receivers on the run...

I want to meet the guy who says his kids are NOT great prospects. I know they dont exist in Texas, so I wonder if they are out there somewhere.

Well, Coach...my 13 year old daughter made her soccer team this year, her first playing. She played defense. She was physically tougher and braver than I thought she would be, and played pretty intelligently. That said, my fantasies of future soccer scholarships went down the drain as I watched her almost complete lack of speed and her negligible ball skills .

She going to have to study and get good grades I guess

Yep, I knew my son wasn't going to be the next Gretzky the first hockey game he played. He was happier waving to the people in the stands rather than even look at the puck.

I didnt say it to be demeaning, but at 10 years old...all dad's think their son is going to be a football star. Truth is...there are more shit stories than good ones. All three of my boys played football and all 3 are/were very good players. My oldest was screwed by coaches that he pissed off by giving them an ego check. If you look at the Notre Dame roster, you'll see a freshman by the name of Grant Blankenship at DE. My son started over him...until he pissed off the coaches. Shit happens.

The younger two are really good as well..maybe even better. Played with varsity as freshman and sophomores. But...they have that last name that pissed off the coaches. One of them had 6 catches and a TD in his first varsity game this year. The next week he was bumped down to the JV "B" team. The other had a strong game at center in a varsity game because the starting center sucked. He got bumped down too. Starting center is a coaches son, so he gets the nod, despite his inability to play.

My kids are just my personal examples and despite the talent that I see in my kids, I still have no delusions of college scholarships or their names being on NFL jerseys. I've seen it happen to other kids at their school and other local schools too. I've also seen some kids they played with when they were 9, 10, 11...that were exceptional football players. 90% of them dont even play anymore for various reasons.

So, I'll say the same thing I say to every other parent. Just enjoy it and have fun, and most of all...make sure your kid has fun. Because at the end of the day, the odds that something simple happens that crushes your dream of living vicariously through your NFL playing son are pretty damn high.

What's with all the hostility today. Nothing wrong with being proud of your kids.

You're right OB. When my oldest was a freshman he got kicked off the freshman football team b/c his grades stunk but I was still proud of him.

I dont think anyone said there was a problem with being proud of your kids. All I was doing was offering a dose of reality to the title of the thread. 10 year old...and great high school prospect...shouldnt be in the same sentence. If it was tongue in cheek, then I apologize. I'm just use to every father in Texas assuming his kid is a future HoF football player.

90% of the kids that are good at age 10, are not at age 16 and 90% of the kids that are good at age 16 are not at age 10. Hell...most of them probably arent even playing football yet. Happens all the time.

I agree with Coach. Everyone should be proud of their kids, but to come on a message board and claim your 10 year old as a "great" high school prospect is more than a little arrogant.

As a coach, I can tell you that most, not all, but most parents completely over-value their kid's ability on the field, rink, court, pitch, etc. Then, with very little experience or true knowledge complain about the coach's decisions without having the ability to look at the situation and players objectively.

Parents of youth athletes in general can be very bad people.
