Thread: Broncos’ Pat Bowlen under consideration for Hall of Fame “contributor” honor

Broncos owner Pat Bowlen is one of 11 finalists under consideration for the Pro Football Hall of Fame newly extricated contributors’ category, according two NFL sources.

A nine-member contributors committee will discuss the 11 candidates and recommend two to the full, 46-member Hall of Fame committee for election on Super Bowl Eve, Jan. 31, in Arizona.

Bowlen will have formidable competition. Contributors who have reached the 15 modern-era finalists group in recent years, but have not been elected, are former commissioner Paul Tagliabue and former owners Edward DeBartolo Jr. and Art Modell. Those three, plus longtime Dallas Cowboys scout Gil Brandt and the late Steve Sabol, a former Colorado College football player who later became president of NFL Films, are also among the finalists.

Mr. B had been very active within the league - headed up committees, etc. He did much more than just own the Broncos.

I much respect all on HOF subcommittee. But 2 GMs misrepresents intent of "contributors" category.
