I have a PS3, and I basically play the same 4 games every year - MLB The Show, Madden, FIFA and the latest COD game. But I play pretty much exclusively online with those titles. GTA 5 was a pretty epic game and is the only one that I don't play online.
COD has historically had two developers, which alternated years, and I felt like there was a pretty big difference between the overall gameplay. I would probably get a couple different because they're not exactly the same. I'd recommend Modern Warfare III and Black Ops II (I didn't like Ghosts, the newest)... Then maybe World at War just because then you'd be getting the more modern warfare and the older. And you could probably find it dirt cheap used because nobody buys games from 2009.

The new COD looks like Halo. No thanks.
CoD has become a joke IMO.
CoDBo2 was the last one that I liked. Treyarch makes better games in the franchise I've always believed, going back to CoD3 and WaW.
I despise Ghosts and for the first time I will NOT be getting this CoD.
I would definitely go with GTA, the best in the series since Vice City IMO. Best game I've played in years.
If you're into fantasy games, Middle Earth - Shadow of Mordor is incredible if you like the LOTR universe.
PS- Get yourself an Xbox 360 on the cheap (if you're still playing from that gen) or get an Xbox One.

I LOVED the Zombie maps on the first BO.

Don't buy any new games until you get a PS4.
is there much difference between ps4 and xbox one?
I might need a bigger TV as well!
I used to love Playstation until I got an Xbox. I haven't bought a Sony since. I'm sure either machine is more than capable to meet your video game needs. i have a couple of friends who have bought both machines, I'm sure neither have gotten laid in years, and they both like the Xbox better.
GTA V (PS3) is probably the most addicted I've been to a video game as a real grown up. Would have to go back to Street Fighter II and Punch Out before that. Well actually played quite a bit of Sony's NFL game during Super Bowl XXXII days, so maybe since that.
Anyway I play online frequently and bought the game shortly after release. Great game. Incredible accomplishment IMO.

I'll be interested to read about how much better (or not) GTA V is on PS4. If it gets talked up I'll probably cave and upgrade.
This year has been down a bit financially while I test myself in my career -- trying to resist as many non-necessary purchases as I can unless they involve stress-relievers like weekend trips with the fam, etc.
So here's hoping it's a minor upgrade and I can wait until deep into next year on it.
