I can't really relate to this being my parents nor anyone ever threatened me with hellfire, and I'm not a parent, but I cant' think of any common/regular/routine example where this type of thing would be appropriate, imo anyway. again though, I don't know. I can see threatening kids with jail or prison though,
I guess what I meant to convey is that "threatening" in and of itself may not be bad, ie: "keep that up johnny and you'll end up in a juvy home". but to say "keep that up Johnny or you will be damned to hell for eternity" It is of my opinion that one of these is more potentially psychologically damaging than the other, but that's just me and my silly thought process
