Thread: Inside The Numbers: Is Von Miller Back?

  1. Default Inside The Numbers: Is Von Miller Back?

    By Colin Welsh

Von Miller has been heavily criticized since returning from his six game suspension last year. He played in only nine of the Broncos 19 games, if you include the playoffs. In those nine games he only had sacks in four of them, and had six sacks total. Von had 27 quarterback hurries, eight quarterback hits and 25 tackles including 23 stops (any defensive play that constitutes an offensive failure). In week 16, Miller's troubles amplified after his season ended with a torn ACL, forcing him to miss week 17 and the entirety of the playoffs.

To start the 2014 season, many were worried he wouldn't be the same after his surgery. In week one against the Colts, he was held without a sack, had four quarterback hurries, and only one stop. In week two his numbers slightly improved with a sack, five tackles, and four stops. So, the question was asked, "maybe he isn't the force he used to be?"

In week three however, something clicked. He had.....................

We NEED Von Miller to be Von Miller.

We will see what road he takes. The Seattle game was encouraging.

He looked great against Seattle. We also need to remember we've played 3 teams with very elusive QB's.

He looks to me like he's back to being the best OLB in football.

He's getting better, and his speed is showing. That SPIN move he made in the Seattle game that just missed the Sack....was friggin SICK!

Now, lets hope Manning can start coming back.

I also think losing Doom has been a factor. Maybe if Ware is a consistent force that will help.

Say what you want about him, Doom was more disruptive than Phillips and Ware have been (not that either of those have been bad). Ware hasn't been a 4-quarter force...yet.

I agree, he played really great against Seattle. Looked like his old self at times (applying that pressure to the QB). I'm excited and am looking forward to seeing him get better.

I admit, during the off season, I didn't have faith that Von would be anything remotely close to his first two seasons. I'm gald it looks like I may have been wrong. Kudos to Von for getting back on that horse.
