Teams not open for consideration: Although I was open to the possibility that the Giants might bounce back to at least mediocrity, & the Bucs might improve a little bit over last season, their 0-2 starts are not that surprising. As far as the Raiders & Jaguars, they every bit as bad as expected.
Saints: Yes, they made the play-offs with an 11-5 record last year, but they were 2-3 in December. They came closer to not making the play-offs than you’d normally expect of a team that started off 5-0 & 9-2. What caused their late season implosion? I’d have to watch those last 5 regular season games, & both play-off games, to answer that question. Did they fix those problems over the summer? Impossible for me to say, but I can tell you that their D has given up the 2nd most points in the NFL so far. Only the Jags are worse.
Chiefs: Yes, they also made the play-offs with an 11-5 record last year, but all 5 of their regular season losses came in their 7 games. Their season that started off with them being 9-0 ended with them being 1 & done in the play-offs. What caused their late season implosion? They ran out of bad teams to play. I think their biggest problem is that they hired a pass happy HC to lead a team with an elite RB & mediocre at best QB. In other words, their O personnel doesn’t fit their HC’s style of O.
Colts: My choice of best 0-2 team this year. Luck is a good QB, but he doesn’t have Mannings ability to make an elite core out of any group of WRs & TEs. It also seems to me that their D is still an afterthought. That said, both of their losses were by 7 point or less, & have come against 2-0 teams that won their respective divisions last years. One of whom, of course, also made it to the SB last year. I can see them winning 5 or 6 of their next 7 going in to their bye.
