Thread: Individual Responsibility for Posts

Just a reminder for all members. You are responsible for everything you include in a post, including links to other sites and gifs. The Rules against posting illegal or pornographic materials are absolutely clear and will be enforced strictly.

We had a situation occur where a member posted a gif, only to have that gif later replaced with explicit pornography by the host. For a brief period that image was visible in a general forum area, and to say it was not only generally offensive but completely inappropriate for viewing by minors is a gross understatement. Should this type of thing happen in the future the poster will simply be suspended, whether or not we believe the post was inadvertant. If we believe that it was deliberate that suspension may be permanent.

I didn't see the Pic which you are refering to, but I will say this: There's nothing unique about this sites rules. You shouldn't buy any song or dance from the offending party that he or she must have missed reading that rule when signing up.

This is not a bad thing y'know... once seen, it can't be "unseen".

Possible changes to a pic (while retaining the url) by a website make it very wise to save an image or gif to your own computer and re-host it yourself (free account at photobucket, imageshack or flick'r) rather than "hotlinking" the graphic. Hotlinking does use someone else's bandwidth and sometimes it costs them money, which makes them understandably angry. If they then substitute a truly gross, offensive graphic and keep the same filename, a hotlinked post will change to the new content. However the person who posted the image may be completely unaware of this; their computer cache may still be showing the original pic...

We think thats exactly what happened in this case - no actual intent or malice involved

Unfortunately, this particular pic was quoted (as you know MB since you're the one who caught it). . .

Ugh!

I had to look at it multiple times while removing it from two posts, and then in the report that you sent. . .twice (once for each post), and then in those threads in the MOd forum. .. .

Thank God Tned finally removed it from the reported posts threads. That one was just pretty horrible.
