Default Ravens respond to OTL story

We at the Ravens have promised to be open, candid and transparent with our fans, sponsors, ticket holders, and the general public.

This past Friday, ESPN.com's "Outside the Lines" feature ran a story entitled, Rice case: purposeful misdirection by the team, scant investigation by NFL.

Later that day, we released this statement: "The ESPN.com 'Outside the Lines' article contains numerous errors, inaccuracies, false assumptions and, perhaps, misunderstandings. The Ravens will address all of these next week in Baltimore after our trip to Cleveland for Sunday's game against the Browns."

What follows is our response. Many statements and allegations from the article are attributed to unnamed "sources" and people "close to" the Ravens. In our determination to maintain transparency, our responses are provided by those directly involved, and each is named.

Default Official: Tape sent to Jeffrey Miller

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- The video of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee inside a casino elevator was sent to NFL headquarters to the attention of league security chief Jeffrey Miller in April, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press.

The NFL has repeatedly said no one with the league saw the violent images until TMZ Sports released the video earlier this month. Miller said Thursday through an NFL spokesman that he never received the video.

The official, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to release details of the case, said he doesn't know if Miller ever saw the DVD or opened the package. His only communication with the NFL was a 12-second voicemail on April 9 from league offices confirming receipt of the package, in which a woman says, "You're right. It's terrible."

The official told the AP two weeks ago that he sent the video to the NFL, but asked the AP not to report that he had addressed the package to Miller. He eliminated that restriction Thursday.

Default NFL: No evidence tape was sent

The NFL on Friday said it had no evidence the Ray Rice elevator tape was ever sent to its offices or received by them, or that a call was made by a woman, from league lines, confirming delivery of the tape.

A league official e-mailed reporters, including ESPN's Adam Schefter, in response to an Associated Press story Thursday night about a law enforcement official saying he mailed a tape of the Rice incident to Jeffrey Miller, the NFL's senior vice president of security.

"Our office has found absolutely no evidence to support the claim of the anonymous 'law enforcement source' that he sent a video to the NFL office or that he received a telephone call to his 'disposable cell phone' from an unidentified female using an NFL line," the league said.

Did anyone expect them to say anything different?

Im not surprised but they were smart about it. I guess they feel if they are going down they are going to have to have a name to the law enforcement official that is making that claim. They will fight this to the end it seems.

After all this noise about Ray Rice, Greg Hardy, Ray McDonald, etc. You'd think they'd be trying really hard to highlight the Bengals and Devon Still and his daughter story. Yet it's put on the back burner because no one wants to hear about the good things going on around the NFL.

The media highlights what will get them the most page clicks and tv viewers. Sad as it may be, people aren't turning on their TVs or going to espn.com to read about Still for the most part. They are doing those things with it comes to stories like Rice, though.

If only they'd write a story about it.

I don't think he claimed the media isn't covering it at all, Mo. Just that it isn't getting near the amount of attention as the Rice story.

The media is doing its job with the story, which has been everywhere.
