    Default new camera ideas

I am looking to get a new camera - all I use now is my phone.

I am thinking a nikon cool pix

My criterion is at least 16 mega pixel, at least 8 x zoom, small and compact.

Under 200 dollars preferably under 150

    Thoughts?

anything after 8 mega is worthless unless you plan on printing larger than 16x20 which most never do. Make sure if has optical zoom and not just digital zoom. They will tell you 16 times zoom ext, but if it is digital it is useless. Nikon, Canon and Panasonic all make good point and shoot camera's. Best bang for your buck will probably be Panasonic. Stay away from Sony, the lens quality isn't up there and Olympus is overpriced for what you get.

    Thanks MasterShake!!!

So how much optical zoom is acceptable?

Stay away from the Fuji's Dave. They're shit.

Anything outside the crappy 4X is ok but of course more is better provided the lens is good. I would suggest you can get a good camera with an 8x optical zoom in your prices range but if you see a 16x or something like that then the camera is probably lacking somewhere else in that price range.

As for Fuji, they use to be the best underrated cameras on the market and best bang for the buck, but that was late 90s early 2000s and they have really dropped the ball since then.

    Thanks MasterShake!!!

I concur - but now I know not to waste money on a high mega pix - with digital zoom - or a fuji.

I have found a few cool pix and lumix that seem pretty sweet. Just waiting I until the wife is not watching, then bang. New camera.
