Default Becky Hammon, former CSU star, named San Antonio Spurs assistant

Former Colorado State star Becky Hammon was hired as an assistant coach by the San Antonio Spurs, the team announced Tuesday.

Hammon, 37, is playing with the San Antonio Stars in the WNBA. She announced on July 23 that she will retire at the end of the season.

She would be the second woman to coach in the NBA. Lisa Boyer, associate head women's basketball coach at South Carolina, was an assistant for the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2001-02 season.

She might be a dirty Russian traitor (a good looking one at that) but this is pretty cool. She grew up here in Rapid City, so naturally she's one of the few sports stars from the area. The high school she went to is a block away from my house.

Popovic is probably the only coach in the league who could get his players to buy into having a female coach. This probably wouldn't work on most other teams.

Yeah, because all athletes are cavemen and hate women.

I think it's cool. When will a female be head coach?
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

Yep, that's pretty much exactly what I said. Nice reading comprehension there.

Yes, because a man feeling uncomfortable about being coached by a woman means he hates women. What infallible logic.

I won't be truly impressed until a team hires Dennis Rodman as head coach after he gets a sex change.

I just hope she can overcome having a smaller brain than her coaching counterparts.
