Default Paul George suffers serious injury

LAS VEGAS -- Indiana Pacers star Paul George suffered a gruesome lower right leg fracture during the U.S. national team's intrasquad scrimmage at UNLV on Friday and underwent successful surgery later that night.

In a statement released after surgery was completed, USA Basketball confirmed George suffered an open tibia-fibula fracture and is expected to remain hospitalized for about three days. Dr. Riley Williams, a Team USA orthopedist who also works with the Brooklyn Nets, was with George.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN that while there was no additional damage besides the fractures, doctors believe George likely will miss all of next season, though no official prognosis has been given.

That might be the worst looking injury I have ever seen. His shin literally made an L against the base of the backboard. That's horrifying. And to think it only happened in a meaningless exhibition.

Did any of you see it yet - It sounds horrifying - was there contact?

Didnt this happen to another basketball player this year - where he just landed wrong and basically his leg just snapped (was it college?)

How does that happen - such a severe injury in a virtually non contact sport?

His leg got caught underneath the stanchion. His momentum carried his body past the stanchion, and tried to do so without his lower leg.

I'll summarize it for you. His shin makes an "L".

Sometimes a good clean break is the most conducive to quick healing.
