No, Smith worded his thoughts poorly or didn't elaborate well enough. From what I read, and I acknowledge that this is rumor, the female attacked or provoked Rice into the attack prior to the video incident.

I do not believe men should hit women. But if a woman is hitting you, sometimes a smack is called for just to back her off. To be clear, I am not talking about a full on punch or beat down. The point is women can provoke a man to force and unless they are prepared for the consequences shouldn't push the man to that point.

Oh, and let's not forget the sort of woman who runs her mouth and then starts the violence fully expecting her bf/hubby to jump in and finish it. Talk about provoke. That's one type of woman I won't hang around very long. If that's what you want, ladies, buy a pit bull.

I am talking about the belief that women can't ever be hit. And I think Smith was talking in general, not specifically about what Rice did. I agree you should never do that. I just disagree that women can never do anything to call for a smack.

Weird thread. "Women sometimes hit men too, or if they are high on angel dust they might pose an imminent threat, so let's not go overboard with this whole men shouldn't hit women thing."

    - Ray may have been "provoked" by his gf
    - Ray, the professional athlete, knocked his gf the eff out.
    - Ray then dragged her unconscious body from the elevator and dumped her like a sack of potatoes before attempting to kick her feet out of the way so the door can close. At no point does he check on her, care for her, or in any other way attempt to give a shit about the woman he just flattened.
    - the NFL deems this a two game slipup... and only because it was caught on tape. I guarantee you that if there was no footage, there would be no suspension at all.

I get that the NFL doesn't want to suspend players for domestic violence, because they might have multiple guys per team suspended at a time.

But maybe, just maaaaaybe they should worry about the victims more and view that as protecting the shield.

Hence why i said his life better be in danger.

Absolutely disgusting that this is only a 2 game ban. And yet Josh Gordon will be suspended for half, or the entire year for getting caught twice for smoking weed. I don't condone either but which one affects other people the most? UH HELLO.

Lay a hand on anyone, you get banned indefinitely. Athletes need to be hit where it really hurts for them to get a wake up call. A 2 game ban is slap in the face to his ex girlfriend.

One is a habitual habbit that they banned him for. If you have a history of breaking the rules they are going to be harsh.

But because Ray Rice doesn't have a history of beating women he only gets a 2 game ban? I understand what you're saying, repeat offenders will get a harsher suspension, but it doesn't take away from the fact that beating women or anyone for that matter should be taken way more seriously than someone smoking marijuana, regardless of how many times he gets caught.

    Two things come to mind.

    1) She probably thinks that was a one-off type of deal and it won't happen again.

    and

    2) She loves the $$$$$$$$.

Probably a little of both but marrying Ray also meant she didnt have to testify against him.

Tripp, I honestly agree with the premise of your comments, I just couldn't resist the irony. The chick realizes that suspending Rice would take money out of his bank account that she's saving up for some future alimony date after she's had a couple of kids and he's retired and starts drooling down his shirt due to all the concussions. She has the ultimate "I'll see you in court" trump card for the rest of the marriage and the only thing she has to worry about is learning how to block a right uppercut.
