Default Coach Chuck Noll Dies At 82

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers icon Chuck Noll, the only coach to win four Super Bowls, died at his Pittsburgh-area home Friday night. He was 82.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner said Noll died of natural causes at 9:45 p.m. ET.

Noll went 209-156-1, including the postseason, while coaching the Steelers from 1969-91. The hiring of Noll, a one-time assistant coach to Sid Gillman and Don Shula, set the Steelers on a path to greatness.

My lasting memory was after the Oilers beat the Steelers in the Astrodome and he met Jerry Glanville at midfield and grabbed his hand and would not let go of it until he had finished telling Glanville off about the Oilers giving cheapshots. Glanville said to the media afterwards that the Steelers were used to going into other cities and playing dirty without the other team fighting back. "Well, we're fighting back now and he doesn't like that."

A very stoic man who, like his mentor Paul Brown, didn't say much but he allowed his teams to goon it up.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

82 years is a good run. I'd take that.
