Default Bailey unable to intercept No. 24 from White

Champ Bailey wasn't able to reel in his first interception as a member of the New Orleans Saints.

Bailey couldn't pry his No. 24 away from Saints cornerback Corey White -- the number Bailey has worn throughout his 15-year career with the Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos.

But Bailey said it's no big deal. He didn't even bother to make White an offer for the number. He was content to take Malcolm Jenkins' old No. 27 instead.

Wait.. I love Champ but why should this young kid give up his number? He's probably had that same number his entire career, as well.

If Corey is going to be cut, Champ can then ge tthe #24, but I don't see why this guy is so harshly criticized.

When the time comes, I really hope JFE signs Champ to a one day contract so he can retire a Bronco.

Most likely he will like he did with Atwater. The cases are pretty similiar.

Wouldn't be anything wrong with doing so - but the Hall of Fame no longer has a player go in associated with a particular team, so there's no functional reason for doing so anymore. Just symbolic.

    And there's the reason.

Bailey must manage his money pretty well. I think most guys would have sent the kid some money for the number. It shows something that Bailey doesn't want to pay for the number.

Often times the younger guy gives up the number, or there's a sale. Sometimes there's a competition for the number as well. I think Charlie Whitehurst lost an arm-wrestling bout against a punter, and ergo gave up his number.
