Default Steve Kerr takes Warriors' job

Steve Kerr has spurned the New York Knicks and accepted a five-year, $25 million offer to become the Golden State Warriors' next coach, multiple sources told ESPN.com.

TNT first reported Kerr's decision to join Golden State.

A source close to Kerr said the draw of working close to his San Diego home factored heavily into his decision. Another league source with knowledge of the negotiations said the Knicks preferred to sign Kerr to a four-year deal rather than the five-year pact he received from Golden State.

They apparently even low-balled him in the late-night counter offer...according to Boomer and Carlton who I was listening to this morning.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

Default Steve Kerr, Golden State Warriors' new coach, learned from the masters -- and from family tragedy

Steve Kerr played for the legendary Lute Olson in college, then spent his NBA career under coaching greats such as Phil Jackson, Gregg Popovich and Lenny Wilkens, who combined for 16 championships and seven coach-of-the-year awards.

Now, the coaching clipboard has been passed down to Kerr.

"Hopefully he was paying attention," Wilkens said.

The Warriors landed Kerr as their new head coach last week, agreeing on a five-year deal worth up to $25 million with the hope that Kerr, 48, inhaled enough magic chalkboard dust to perform as well as the men who coached him.
