I could be wrong, but isn't Veracruz a coastal province in Mexico? Probably not even the highest place in the country.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

According to your traditional American education. Maybe they learn up is down and down is up. You never know. You can't be too quick to jump to conclusions, Mo.

I Googled this morning. You're right. Veracruz is a state that borders the Gulf of Mexico. However it does have the highest peak in the country. 3rd highest in North America. It's a volcano. Orizaba. McKinley the highest followed by Mount Logan in Canada.

If he is using North and South America as one continent there's a few in South America that are over 22,000 feet in the Andes.

According to the Natives....it's Mount Denali. All I know, it's one damn big mountain and pretty awesome if you can see it on a clear day.

I had no idea this was a convention in controversy. If the definition of continent is nebulous, why bother with the term? If it means either 4 or 7, does it mean anything?

Conventionally, "continents are understood to be large, continuous, discrete masses of land, ideally separated by expanses of water."
There are probably some fatties on floating lounge chairs that qualify as continents. That could really mess up the math.

Better question.. how many oceans do you think there are?

Some say 4 (Arctic, Indian, Pacific, Atlantic) Some say 5 (Antarctic Ocean or Southern Ocean) then Some say just 1 (the World Ocean)

The AAG recognizes 7 continents but more specifically and probably more accurately they teach 11 "World Regions"

    North America
    Middle America (Central America)
    South America
    Europe
    Russian Domain
    MENA (Middle East North Africa)
    Sub-Saharan Africa
    South Asia
    East Asia
    Southeast Asia
    Australia and Oceania
