I Googled this morning. You're right. Veracruz is a state that borders the Gulf of Mexico. However it does have the highest peak in the country. 3rd highest in North America. It's a volcano. Orizaba. McKinley the highest followed by Mount Logan in Canada.
If he is using North and South America as one continent there's a few in South America that are over 22,000 feet in the Andes.
I had no idea this was a convention in controversy. If the definition of continent is nebulous, why bother with the term? If it means either 4 or 7, does it mean anything?
There are probably some fatties on floating lounge chairs that qualify as continents. That could really mess up the math.Conventionally, "continents are understood to be large, continuous, discrete masses of land, ideally separated by expanses of water."

The AAG recognizes 7 continents but more specifically and probably more accurately they teach 11 "World Regions"
