Thread: The Chargers Are Mediocre Without Running Game

  1. Default The Chargers Are Mediocre Without Running Game

The San Diego Chargers were one of only two seven loss teams to make it to the playoffs this season. They were one of the biggest surprises. Phillip Rivers had an efficient season, and they finished with a top five ranked offense.

They had a rough patch from weeks nine to 13 where they lost four out of five games, but ended up getting back on track. Including the playoff win they have won five straight, and six out of the last seven.

They have managed to do so, not with the passing game, but with a very good running attack. They are averaging 170 rushing yards a game during this five game winning streak.

The Chargers, however, have been very poor this season when the running game has been ineffective. It seems as if the running game is back packing Phillip Rivers and the passing game.

This season the San Diego Chargers have been held under 140 rushing yards nine times. In those nine games they lost six of them. They are 3-6 when rushing for less than 140 yards and 6-1 when rushing for more. The one loss comes from a November loss against the Miami Dolphins when they rushed for 154 yards.

If you look even deeper the Chargers are 0-4 this season when they fail to get to 100 yards rushing...CONTINUE READING

Takes OT to beat the Chiefs 2nd string, 4 turnovers to beat the Bengals. I'm just not all that worried.

Obvious title iz obvious. Their D is pretty much uniformly garbage, with the notable exception of an underrated pass rush that hurried and hit Manning in both our previous meetings, and without Royal their passing game is just an aging HoF TE and a speedy rookie WR. If we protect Manning and stop the run we can light them up and bury them by halftime. Though even then it's unlikely we'd let up given the past 12 months. I could see us threatening the 73-0 NFL record just to ensure SD doesn't stage a miraculous comebacks suddenly common with new NFL rules.
Oh, valid point. I thought you meant all starters, you should take the time to be more descriptive, don't be shy. Jaded
