Default Kroger completes 'last-minute pass,' moving Bengals ticket sales into red zone

    http://www.bengals.com/news/article-...are%3Afacebook

In an effort to assist in reaching a sellout for local television coverage, the Cincinnati/Dayton Division of Kroger has purchased a large quantity of tickets to Sunday's Bengals playoff game at Paul Brown Stadium.

With the help of local radio stations, WKRQ, WUBE and WREW in Cincinnati and WHKO and WDHT in Dayton, Kroger will distribute the tickets to US Military veterans and Active Duty service members at several store locations in the area. Customers just need to show their Military ID for two FREE tickets to Sunday's game (while supplies last).
    Go Kroger!

    Nice gesture by Kroger.

Move the franchise. They don't deserve a team.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

Yeah, but it's the Bengals...do you think they'll even be able to give those tickets away?

I was a little disgusted with an article I read by a Cincinatti journalist. He was applauding the fans for not going to games even though they're competitive every year. He was essentially saying they should only by tickets if the Bengals are competing for the SB. What a tool....

I've always liked Kroger. They seem like a good business, to me.

I'm sure a lot of military personnel will be all over it.

That doesn't change the fact that what I said was extremely funny.

    Jeez, what a buzzkill.

Green Bay is in a little different situation. They are going to be experiencing arctic conditions, and they still came close to selling their allotment within 24 hours.

I think the fact that it happened to 3 of 4 WC teams shows it's more of a league-wide issue than a reason a particular season shouldn't have a team. Football is more and more becoming a better TV product than live product every year. Factor in the cold-ass weather, and I can't say I blame fans for staying at home. I don't think this is an issue that will go away for the NFL.

I would guess it has something to do with prices also. I've never looked at playoff tickets, but I'm sure they're overpriced.

I don't get Bengals fans - particularly in this case...

I agree ticket, parking, concessions, etc. prices are out of control, but that's everywhere...

...but they bitch for years (Bengals fans, rightly so probably) about having a joke and non-competitive team, but then when they DO get a team that's postseason worthy, they don't go to the game?

    ...that's bull shit...

Hamilton County largely paid for that stadium and gave Mike Brown a sweetheart deal when he threatened to move the team. That same fanbase supported a very poor product throughout the 90's, and while things have gotten better, the 'savior' Marvin Lewis still has not produced a playoff win. But, that fanbase still supported the team. They supported the team when they were a punchline in the media for the arrests, and they supported the team through more gaffes and horrific decisions than most fans can honestly say. Cincinnati fans are more tried and tested than most fanbases, and if any fanbase deserves a 'pass' it would be us. We'll move on, though.

The lack of ticket sales isn't surprising. They were talking about it earlier on ESPN, and for quite some time there's been a trend of people staying home to watch the game instead of going to the stadium. It's a bit of a concern for the league.
