Default Jay Cutler re-signs with Chicago Bears through 2020

The Chicago Bears ended the questions and rumors surrounding quarterback Jay Cutler.

General manager Phil Emery announced Thursday the team signed the quarterback to a seven-year contract that will keep him in Chicago through 2020.

Emery insisted multiple times this season that the Bears' hoped to lock up their franchise quarterback for the long-haul without the use of the cap-guzzling franchise tag. Emery accomplished that goal with the seven-year contract that he said came together in the past three days.

During his announcement, Emery lauded Cutler as a "demonstrated winner" who proved he could "be the reason you win."

The Bears' GM said he was impressed by Cutler's ability to battle through injuries and was pleased with the progress the quarterback has made under coach Marc Trestman.

No big deal. It's not like they won't cut him or trade him next year. Contracts are meaningless.

they seem to often not be fulfilled, but when players or traded, cut, maneuvered, they mean a lot in regards to the money and cost. I know it's not a spectacular observation/point, but I felt I needed to post

If the quarterback whisperer cant make cutler great, then mediocre is all cutler will be, with occasional flashes of brilliance between interceptions

There is probably about 50-50 like of cutler among bronco fans. Some like cutler, some dont. Its eveyones right to do so. I almost always like to see former broncos play good outside the division, but cutler, well, I cant say I root for the guy...maybe someday
I know his website http://smokinjaycutler.tumblr.com/ is popular. crzy

I dont even know if its 50-50. Most Bronco fans ive seen post about him dont care for him. But then again most former players dont get too much love anyway. Hillis, Marshall, Cutty, Shef, Doom, all have their detractors.

I think the fans were truly waiting for the next franchise QB since #7 and felt they finally had that with Cutler...

...and he (seemed to) have cared less and really wanted to be playing in Illinois instead...

...and I think fans picked up on that.

    JMO of course...

Nah, its a fair viewpoint to have. I think Jay handled the McD situation very poorly in terms of who to trust. I agree with Jay that McD was a douche but McD didnt represent the locker room and to my knowledge at that point the players would of stood behind him. But Jay made it about just him and forced his way out but not too shocking that it didnt take long for McD to rub other players the wrong way as they decided to bolt as well. Jay will always fall short because of his attitude, its improving a bit but the kid is uber talented and i would like him to succeed. I thought it was childish of him to bail on the team but at the same time when a coach comes in and tries to be sneaky behind your back i can see why he was initially upset. I would of been happy had we just skipped the McDaniels era and kept those guys on this team but thats not how it played out and im looking forward to the Oz era now.
