The Denver Broncos can exhale momentarily. Today the Kansas City Chiefs fell to their third straight loss and the second to the Broncos in the past three weeks. Coming into today’s matchup, the two teams were tied for the division lead with a 9-2 record. Now the Broncos maintain full control of the AFC West which includes being 4-0 in the division.

The First Half

Denver deferred the opening kickoff and Kansas City received the ball to start the game. From the very first drive it was apparent that the game would come down to stiff defensive play on both sides as Kansas City marched down the field only to be picked off in the endzone by Wesley Woodyard. Not all was lost for the tough Chiefs team as they responded by scoring on the next two drives and a brilliant kickoff returned for a touchdown by Knile Davis.

The Broncos couldn’t do any better on offense as two out of the first three drives ended in interceptions. For a team who had been putting up points at the beginning of the season and a team that appeared dominate, they really were unable to decipher the Chiefs for much of the first half as two drives ended in punts, two in interceptions and two for touchdowns.

The Second Half

The Broncos really turned up the heat in the second half as they found the consistency they lacked in the first half. Peyton Manning found what he was looking for in the Chiefs defense that eluded him throughout the first half and the Broncos marched down the field and scored on three long drives of 80, 92 and 95 yards respectively. Eric Decker was the hero on the end of each of the three drives, and ended the game with four touchdowns on just eight catches for 174 yards. The Broncos defense was the unsung hero of the second half holding the Chiefs to just one score and forcing them to punt on their first three drives....CONTINUE READING
