    Default Four players to watch

    September 8, 2009 10:00 PM

    Posted by ESPN.com’s Bill Williamson

Here are four players in the AFC West to watch this weekend as the NFL season starts:

Denver, Knowshon Moreno, running back: The rookie tailback will likely play Sunday in Cincinnati. He got limited action in training camp and in the preseason because of a contract holdout and a knee injury. But Moreno, who was the No. 12 overall draft pick in April, is getting healthier and the Broncos are excited about how what can contribute. Ideally, the offense is going to revolve around Moreno, who can be a three-down back. Let’s see if he makes that type of impact right away.

Kansas City, Tyson Jackson, defensive end: The Chiefs have been excited about Jackson all training camp. He seems to be ready to be an impact player. He appears to be a playmaker, who is very active. The Chiefs need an anchor on defense. Jackson, the No. 3 overall pick in the draft, will get the chance Sunday at Baltimore to show he can be an impact player.

Oakland, Nnamdi Asomugha, cornerback: The best cornerback in the NFL will play Monday night despite coming of a wrist surgery. If the Raiders are going to beat the Chargers, Asomugha is going to have to come up with some big plays. Asomugha is tough, but it will be interesting to see if he can play physically in this game. If so, Oakland may have a chance. If not, it could be another long season-opening Monday night game for the Raiders.

San Diego, LaDainian Tomlinson, running back: This is the first game of a pivotal season for Tomlinson, who turned 30 this summer. Tomlinson needs to prove to the Chargers he can still be a top-tier tailback. He has been focused all year in showing he can bounce back from injuries and his least productive NFL season. He has a chance for a big night against the Raiders. Oakland was ranked 31st in the NFL against the run last season and it struggled against the run in the preseason. If Tomlinson can have a big night, it will kick start his season.

i'm not concerned about knowshon, he's the kind of player you just plug in and watch him do his thing. . . whoever's manning the quarterback position is the player to keep an eye on for denver. . . .
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

I agree that the QB is the one everyone's "eye" will be on. It is the position definately in question this season. Moreno is just icing on the cake.

I'm going to keep a close eye on Bruton. He filled that #30 jersey well in the pre-season. He's a "Rudy" type guy....Like Hillis.

I guess I'm not quite as sold on Tyson Jackson as others. I've still yet to see a move from him other than a bull rush. That wont cut it in the NFL.
