Randall Cunningham comes to mind, he was thoroughly arrogant about his utter lack of ability to QB anything other than sandlot offense, ironic that his best play came after a humbling 2-3 years outta football when he decided to actually play the way the system was designed.

Throwing to a rookie Randy Moss and HoFer Chris Carter didn't hurt either.

Roger Staubach started as "Roger the Dodger" for his scrambling ability.

Bobby Douglass was a better runner than passer.

But, IMO, running out of desperation and running by designed play are two different things.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

I was going to mention JFE - but i thought he was more of a Big Ben style scrambler- in the sense that he would run to keep plays alive, whereas Young, Cunningham would perhaps run more by design, and from the little i know about Tarkenton, i think he just audibled what ever he liked and just went with the improvised run.

The thing about Kaep, Wilson and Newton - they can all throw as well - so i think they have a future. Wild cat Qbs are a thing of the past but a GENUINE DUAL THREAT - will always have a place. They just need to keep their ego in check and have a good OC.

Makes me wonder though - imagine Tebow playing in a run heavy league (possible 30 years ago). He might be able to cut it - he would be big enough to absorb the hits that Vick could not take and might throw dink and dunks no more than 10 a game.

Elway could have run the option had they wanted to.

Lest we forget, this was what Young was like as a rookie...

Some folks think all he was in the NFL was a total bust. He actually made a Pro Bowl one year.

Well, I'm not trying to make it a Chuck Norris joke. He really was an athlete who played quarterback. He was Michael Vick, Colin Kaepernick and RGIII long before those guys were even born.

Tarkenton didn't have the cannon. He and Steve Young are more comparable in terms of skills.

It's not saying a lot, but Vince has probably been the best Titans QB since McNair.

He was a below average quarterback.

He was a below average thrower, I'll give you that. But check out his career record:

    http://www.pro-football-reference.co...Y/YounVi00.htm

    31-19-0 career record as a starting quarterback. TWO Pro-Bowl appearances (2006, 2009).

2006 NFL AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.

    13 game-winning drives (96th all-time).

My point is that many people think he was just terrible because his career and his comebacks ended so poorly but, for a few years, he was good enough to make a Pro Bowl twice and had a 62% winning pct. as a starting QB. Yes, he had Chris Johnson in the backfield. Yes, Jeff Fisher had some solid defenses. But the numbers don't lie. Vince Young was briefly a winning NFL quarterback. And don't forget he was drafted by a 4-12 team so it isn't like he was handed Brett Favre's Packers to begin his career.

He was an alternate in both. David Garrard and Derek Anderson were alternates too.

He was a below average quarterback. Tim Tebow has a winning record. He is one of the worst quarterbacks ever.
