Default Vince Young to work out for Green Bay Packers

Perhaps Buffalo wasn't the last, best chance for Vince Young's career.

Young will work out for the Green Bay Packers on Monday, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported, via a source informed of the workout. Young had a great opportunity with the Bills last offseason, but he couldn't even beat out Tyler Thigpen for a spot behind Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette first reported the news of Young's workout.

Didn't want to start a thread.

Vince Young says he would have stayed one more year at Texas if he had known Houston would not have drafted him. Says he regrets coming out. Uhmmmmm. Oakland had the number one pick next year. They might have chosen Young over the great Jamarcus Russell. I'm not sure that would have been much better for him.

Other than winning a Heisman, Young had accomplished everything he could do on a college level so he risked losing a lot of money staying another year. You can see what it did for Matt Leinart. No doubt Young would have developed more with another year of college experience but I doubt it would have matured him for the real problem he had transitioning to the NFL - growing up mentally.

Young actually had a great situation with Steve McNair as a mentor and a relatively patient head coach in Jeff Fisher. McNair had been a mentor of his going back to his time with the Oilers. Yes, Fisher did not want to draft Young and Bud Adams overruled him but Fisher did his best to make Young a true NFL quarterback but Young had never experienced failure before and did not handle it well when fans booed.

Young, BTW, now has a job at UT where he will mentor underprivileged students but, in reality, he'll be an aide in recruiting and schmoozing alumni. Pays six figures. I'm sure he flinches every time he sees Russell Wilson succeed and think it could have been him. Well, honestly, Wilson is a far better passer and that's what you need to be an NFL quarterback and Vince didn't have it and everyone knew it.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

He had plenty of arm strength. He was just inconsistent mechanically and wasn't good at reading secondaries.

How funny, so Vince is essentially blaming Tennesse for drafting him. bhwhahahahaha

I don't know why, but I always felt sorry for him, and hoped he did well. I have no idea why - maybe because the Championship Game was one of the best I've watched?

Ive never felt sorry for him but i agree the championship game was one of the best ever. I actually predicted earlier in that season that Bush would win the heisman but that Young and the Longhorns would win the championship. Such a great game. He started his NFL career pretty well but then just fell apart. At this point though (not just with Young) im just not very convinced that the hybrid QB will be the longterm solution for any NFL team unless their pass efficiency outweighs their scrambling/athleticism.

"Felt sorry" was probably not the best choice of words. I wanted him to succeed for some reason. I have no interest in Texas football either.

I'm in the same boat. That was an awesome game. They replayed it about a week ago. I think it was on the Longhorn Network. I've got it on my DVR.

I have no idea why you're saying this. There have been zero reports since camp started.

Have you actually been paying attention to any actual Manziel/Browns stories since camp started? Be honest.
