    Default Would you rather...

I got this idea from a recent discussion I had, and it gave me the idea to start this poll. If you were a pro athlete would you rather....

Play for one year and minimum salary, win the championship, and never play again.

    OR

Play for 10 years, make enough money to keep you and your kids financially secure for life, but play on a losing team all 10 years.

I'll be interested in the responses on this. I think framing the argument this way really puts into perspective the reality of the situation when fans bash a player for caring about himself more than the team.

I presume you are talking about the NFL but in MLB, there's no question to go for the 10-yr career. The NFL is a little different question because most players don't last long and the guaranteed money isn't as guaranteed unless you are a star.

I'd rather play 10 years and be financially set for life.

But if you play for 10 years in the NFL, you are going to get paid every year. Even at vet minimum you are going to come out of that a multimillionaire.

Kind of a silly question. League minimum for a first year/rookie is $390,000. (as of 2012)

Anyone that says that over 10 years worth of paychecks is probably high.

Ask this question to 100 people under 25 and you'll get different answers than if you asked it to 100 people over 35. Guaranteed

I know this is kind of an extreme comparison, but it does seem that the majority of fans get mad when a player does something that benefits himself over the team. I think framing it this way shows why that's a silly thing to get outraged about.

Totally and completely depends on the situation.

Probably be a mixture. My point was that it's a question that is age relative. People's priorities change throughout life

Ask the question this way - would you rather play one year, win a championship and get cut the next year and be out of the NFL or would you rather play 10 years as an All-Pro on losing teams, then find by age 50 your knees and hips need replacing and you have the IQ of an eggplant?

Can't vote as I'm mobile but I'll take the championship hands down, no question.

Experiences are FAR more valuable to me than money though.

Give me the money. If I'm going to be cut the next year, I probably wasn't good at all.
