It means he may or may not be fired. They will decide at a later date if they ever intend to bring him back.

Default Broncos Announce Discipline for Russell, Heckert

    from article:

STATEMENT FROM DENVER BRONCOS PRESIDENT JOE ELLIS

“We have closely reviewed the incidents involving Matt Russell and Tom Heckert independently as well as part of a larger issue we must address. Throughout this process, we had extensive conversations internally and consulted with the National Football League.

“This morning, we informed both Matt and Tom of the discipline as well as our expectations of them going forward. While they will be punished and held accountable, our first priority is their health and well-being. We must ensure they receive any care they need and support them however possible.

“Although they have expressed great remorse, this in no way excuses their conduct. The decisions they made away from the workplace undermined the integrity of our organization and the NFL as well as the values instilled by Pat Bowlen during his ownership.
    AND

STATEMENT FROM DENVER BRONCOS EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF FOOTBALL OPERATIONS JOHN ELWAY
“When I was named to this position two years ago, I spoke of the role this organization has in the community. We all have an individual responsibility to represent this team in the appropriate manner at all times.

“It’s particularly disappointing that two members of my staff acted so irresponsibly. Simply put, it’s unacceptable and inexcusable.

No it doesn't. It means he's suspended indefinitely, which means for a length of time that hasn't been determined.

something tells me dealing with elway and bowlen during this situation might have been punishment enough.

    Chicken or the egg....

That's sort of splitting hairs. I agree with you, and there is still a chance he doesn't come back.

well, when you compare it to a public burning at the stake in the middle of the 16th street mall, which is how they should have handled it. . .

Not really. What you implied and what I said are entirely different. IMO, with the way the franchise is run, if they wanted to can him they wouldn't have suspended him.

I forgot about the public burnings, my apologies. I suppose a good caning is also an alternative. However, I personally would probably choose the caning over losing my income for a month or more.

Compared to getting fired and losing your job? I would gladly take the one month without pay.

Personally, I don't think Heckert should lose his job over a DUI. I think a month without pay is firm enough.

Russel, on the other hand, was much more egregious. I could see him losing his job over his error. That's why the Broncos suspended him indefinitely without pay.

Im sure their salaries are public knowledge...How much do these guys make a year? 7 Figures? Something tells me they wont be hurting. Plus,Firing them would only lead to them being hired immediately by another team. Its not like they lost their job at Mcdonalds and have a family to feed.
