Yo dogfish, if you liked The Beast, see if you can find a bottle of Samichlaus. Huge German doppelbock, very sweet, very intense. It's got a remarkably similar flavor profile to The Beast despite being in a different style and noticeably lighter in color.

just had one a few weeks ago. . .

in fact, look back through the thread a little bit and you can see it sitting in my fridge. . . lol. . .

it's some damn good stuff, isn't it?

warm, rich, sweet and malty! it definitely has that dark fruit sweetness, like plums and cherries. . . the sami is a hell of a beer, and not easily found. . . good call. . .

Well, that's what I get for not getting caught up on the thread before I post.

But yeah, it's fantastic. We just got it in Texas for the first time a few days ago. The price might prevent me from buying it again anytime soon, but for a one-time beer I know I got my money's worth. Knocked me right on my ass too.

it's 14%, i believe. . . stuff is pricey because of that, and because it's only brewed once a year-- in this castle in egenburgh (sp?), austria. . . the sami definitely has a cult following. . .

    and now you've been indoctrinated!

    currently drinking a colorado native. . . avery's ellie's brown ale. . .

good, solid session brew. . . plenty of flavor, but mild and super smooth. . . nutty, with clean malt flavor and mild toffee and mocha notes-- but not even the slightest bit bitter. . .

The Saucer here is having a Texas release party tonight for Flying Dog's 20th anniversary beer, Raging Bitch. Should be pretty good, I usually like Belgian IPAs.

It's not a true Belgian IPA. It's different, not bad but not great either.

Blue& Gray's Stonewall Stout. It a local VA brewery out of Fredericksburg, Virginia, thus the Civil War Theme to their beers. It a classic English Style Stout, pour black with slight hint of chocolate malt. Goes down real crisp and fresh. No aftertaste. Darn good stout. Hopefully the expand out of the Mid-Atlantic region.

Southern Tier Cherry Saison- An American Ale brewed in oak barrels and with cherries. First of all very light, almost Bud light. A slight hint of cherries which doesn't carry through with brew. Goes down light and smooth. Overall it is not bad, but it not the best fruit infused brew I have had.

Southern Tier uber Sun - a summer wheat beer. Pours a cloudy yellow and has sweet smell. Goes down a little sharp and you can taste the wheat and barely. Not my normal taste in beer, but for a summer brew on warm day it good choice.

Weyerbacher "Hersey" - Imperial Stout aged in Oak Barrels. I kinda of excited about this one, thinking this ****** could be an ass kicker (but it's only 8% ACL). It pours dark/black like a Guinness extra stout beer. Immediately, you smell a sweet almost bourbon like order (that is the oak). As you drink it that flavor kills the classic Imperial Stout taste leaving you thinking it to darn sweet. It not bad, but not great either. If you are looking for that bourbon barrel stout I would go with the Jefferson Reserve by Bluegrass Brewing instead. Weyerbacker hits a solid a single but doesn't drive in a win.
