Thread: Draft Magazines over the years

Default Draft Magazines over the years

I have a few draft magazines.

    2004
    2005

I can't find 2006, but I know I have them somewhere. Wouldn't that be the one with Cutler?

    2007
    2008
    2009
    2010
    2011
    2012

I like looking back and seeing how off they were. Is there anyone I should look up? I can't even find Chris Harris at all. Doom would be in the 2006 magazine that I can't find.

    2004:
    QBs
Ben Roethlisberger will be a better pro than Eli.
    (Probably debatable)

JP Losman a 1st round quarterback.
    (He was overrated)

    RBs
    Chris Perry a 1st rounder.

    Maurice Clarett a 2nd rounder.

Michael Turner, ranked 9th RB, 3rd rounder. He will become an excellent backup. Struggled catching the ball at the Senior Bowl hurt his draft stock.

Listed right after Turner was Tatum Bell and Mewelde Moore.

    FBs
Louska Polite ranked 5th FB, 6th round pick. Biggest risk.
Hard worker who has potential for special teams.

Vonta Leach ranked 8th, 7th rounder. Unrealized potential. Sleeper pick.
Has the ideal tools to contribute to special teams.

    WRs
Mike Williams better than Larry Fitzgerald. (Enough said)

No analysis for Wes Welker. He was listed with "others" as the 58th best WR in the draft.

    DEs
Jared Allen, 26th best DE, 7th rounder. Is worth a late round pick as a developmental player.

    LBs
Did pretty well ranking Vilma and DJ Williams as best ILB, and OLB.

I'll go through and post some more later. Feel free to ask about any players.

Who pn earth said Mike Williams was better than Fitzgerald? Fitz was a top ten pick in everyone's eyes IIRC. William's was dirt slow for a wideout prospect. He was just a huge reciever on a great USC team.

Oh and Chris Harris was an undrafted free agent. not someone that would be talked about in one of those mags I'll bet.

I used to buy a draft guide but this here internet is just too handy (as of about 10 years ago)

Mike Williams was a standout receiver for a media favorite, so he got all the attention. Fitz went to Pitt. A lot of tems miss the boat on Pitt players. Fitz, McCoy, Revis

The 2010 QB class was interesting. Clausen, Bradford, McCoy, etc..

    Tebow: (3 different mags)
5th best QB. There have been QBs with less talent who have become quality starters. Worst case, Wildcat QB or Hback.

3rd best QB. 2nd rounder. Needs to improve accuracy, release, and pocket presence. Has the intangibles everyone wants.

8th best QB. 1-2 round. Not a natural passer. Will require development. Could have more long term success as an Hback.

    2008 draft:
Peyton Hillis: Top ranked FB. 3 rounder. The more film of Hillis you watch, the more he grows on you because of his ability to contribute as a blocker, receiver and ballcarrier. (Jacob Hester, 5th best FB, 7th rounder, best short yardage runner in FB class.)

Eddie Royal: 12th best WR. 3rd rounder. Raised his stock at the Senior Bowl. Lacks size. Could shine as a slot and return man.

Chris Long: Best DE. 1st rounder. Aaron Kampman comparison. Most polished DE our scouts have ever evaluated. Plays smart and shows great technique. Should produce at a high level as an NFL starter and raise the entire defense's level of play.

Anyone who even mildly followed football knew that Fitz was a Vikings ball boy and worked out with Chris Carter, and even though he went to Pitt he was regularly on Sportscenter highlights. I thought he was can't miss, and I'm a nobody.

I really liked him. I though he should have won the Heisman at the time. He was one of my favorite players in the draft. Jason White won the Heisman.

All the players from Pitt that I mentioned certainly shined and weren't exactly underrated. Fitz was the 1st WR taken in 2004 and #3 overall, but Revis lasted until pick 14 (3 spots before we nabbed Jarvis Moss) and McCoy was a 2nd round pick taken after Moreno, Donald Brown, Beanie Wells

Didn't Williams have a big one-handed catch in the back of the endzone or something? I remember a lot of hype for the first Mike Williams at USC. I just picked Fitz mostly because of my anti-USC bias.

I buy them for bathroom reading material. I think I have the last 5 years or so.

"The Broncos went from one of the more attractive organizations in the NFL to one in total disarray. McDaniels will go down as one of the most reviled figures in Denver sports history".

Oh. Man. How could I forget the 2009 QBs.

    Matt Ryan...Joe Flacco...Chad Henne...Matt Flynn...Dennis Dixon...Caleb Hanie...

    Who was the best?

    Brian Brohm.

    Found my 2006 magazines.

    Dumervil:
7th best DE. 2nd rounder. 8th best DE. 3rd rounder.

They actually had Doom rated pretty high, it seems. I guess it was because of being a beast at getting to the QB in college.

    Maurice Drew from UCLA:
13th best RB. 4th rounder. His biggest role in the NFL likely will be as punt returner.
6th best RB. 2nd rounder. (Behind Laurence Maroney, LenDale White, Brian Calhoun)
