Default DirecTV could drop Sunday Ticket after 2014

At the Deutsche Bank Media, Internet & Telecom Conference in Florida on Wednesday, DirecTV CFO Pat Doyle was asked about the future of the satellite provider's exclusive deal with the league for NFL Sunday Ticket.
DirecTV paid the NFL $4 billion for four years for the rights to the Sunday Ticket, and the next time the two sides need to renegotiate, the price will exponentially increase. That means, according to Doyle, that if the price goes too high, DirecTV would consider a non-exclusive deal with the league.

Or, it could just drop the Sunday Ticket altogether.

DirecTV loses money every year on Sunday Ticket but they don't dare drop it because of all the subscribers that would abandon them if they did. The NFL is the very definition of "loss leader" - too expensive to keep but too valuable not to.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

This would destroy DirecTV. I already know people who are dropping it despite the fact that they lose Sunday Ticket as well.

Same reason I got DirecTV. If I can watch the Broncos I'm happy, if not I'll drop in a heartbeat.

They would charge less, and get into a price war with dish. No one is going anywhere. And this might be good if the NFL could sell it to individual cable outfits, like mine. Brighthouse. Again, that is Brighthouse.

Like I said, as long as I get to watch the Broncos I'll be happy.

Directv will pay what the nfl asks. They are not idiots. Losing money on sunday ticket is nothing new to them. They have more than enough caah to cover it and outbid anybody.

DirecTV is still worth keeping if they have Sunday Ticket non-exclusively. Never had any service issues with them like with the cable companies and they are a company that actively looks to improve their service to customers. The cable providers(Comcast, Time Warner) just don't give a crap at all about customers and in a non-monopolized market, they would have been defeated a long time ago. But if DirecTV loses Sunday Ticket entirely, there will be a mass-exodus. If they lose Sunday Ticket's exclusively to Comcast, I will smash my head into a wall.

I might consider Uverse if this happened. Dish if they got their shit together.

But I am never going back to cable, Ticket or no Ticket. I will spend my money in sports bars first.

I had DirectTV for a little while but when it rained or had bad weather it went ape shit. But, even with that it was better than Comcast. Right now i have Verizon and its been great so far but had i still had DirectTV and they lost the NFL package i would drop it. It was the only reason i ended up getting it in the first place.
