Default Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning visits troops overseas as part of USO tour

Naval Air Station Sigonella, Italy - Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is on a USO tour in Europe, visiting our troops serving overseas.

Manning is part of a group of athletes, coaches and musicians on tour with Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. James Winnefeld.

"Thanks from the bottom of my heart," Manning told the troops. "The one thing that has always motivated me playing football is being accountable to my teammates. What's really driven me for the past 16 years playing football is being accountable, doing my job at the very best that I can to be accountable to help my teammates. I know that's exactly what you believe in, as it's really what the military is all about."

Default Peyton Manning Visits Afghanistan To Thank The Troops

DENVER (CBS4) – Peyton Manning is spending some of his offseason saying “thank you” to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.

On Friday Manning was in Afghanistan as part of his USO Tour. The Broncos quarterback is all about preparation and dedication. That’s what he said he saw this week from the troops.

“To witness the teamwork, the communication, discipline that all of you folks display; flying under that ship yesterday, watching the communication between the folks on the ship and the pilots and seeing how the communication goes,” Manning told the troops. “If any of my offensive linemen jump off-sides again they out to be shot.”

This is pretty cool. These USO tours are always good especially when you are a fan of the players who goes.

Default Manning offers unique look at special trip

We have a new colleague at ESPN.com. Well, at least for the day.

Denver quarterback Peyton Manning took the time to pen a long, detailed dairy of his recent trip overseas to visit United States military members.

Manning broke down his every move of his five-day trip, accompanied with several photos with Manning interacting with the troops. There are many cool parts, including his reunion with a kindergarten classmate and meeting a military couple with twin children -- Peyton and Eli.

The trip clearly touched Manning and the fact that a player of his stature would take the time to detail it and offset it to the public shares just how much it meant to him.

I highly recommend reading this piece, yes, even if you despise the Broncos. This one is about being an American, not anything else. Give it a read. You’ll like it.

On plane right now, we are flying to Rota, Spain. We will visit troops there all day, then fly to Naples, Italy, Tuesday night to visit some more troops. Today we took a tour of the Pentagon and went to Walter Reed Hospital to visit the wounded warriors. I visited with many amputees while they were rehabbing and learning to walk with their prosthetic legs. Their attitudes on life, determination to get better and desire to remain in the military were very inspiring. Signed a lot of footballs and took lots of pictures. If I ever whine or complain about anything ever again, then shame on me after what I witnessed today.
