Default Ziggy Ansah solidifies status as top-15 pick; Margus Hunt shines

» The smartest Monday decision. There was talk that BYU defensive end Ziggy Ansah wasn't going to participate in the 40-yard dash during Monday's workout. Apparently, he decided at the last minute to go ahead and run. That was a wise decision. With all 32 teams in attendance, Ansah ran it in an impressive 4.63 seconds. He followed that up by putting together an excellent field workout, which included taking part in the linebacker drills. After a dominating Senior Bowl game and his performance here, I will be very surprised if he isn't selected with one of the first 15 picks in the upcoming draft.

» The talk of the combine. SMU defensive end Margus Hunt was the talk of the town following his impressive performance. Hunt had a lot of momentum heading into the field-testing, following an impressive weigh-in (6-foot-8 1/8, 277 pounds) and bench press (38 reps of 225). He then proceeded to wow scouts by running a 4.60 40 and posting a 34.5-inch vertical jump. Hunt is very raw on tape, but his size and upside will likely force him up into the bottom of the second round.

This Margus Hunt kid looks like a total athletic freak.

    6'8, 277 pounds, 4.6 40, 38 reps of 225.

    Get him late round 2???

Give me either one of those guys. Ansah was fairly productive and improving every year. I think he's closer to JPP than Hunt is right now. Hunt didn't start playing football until 2009. He has insane potential, and is a kick blocking machine. Ansah will be long gone by 28, and Hunt will probably be long gone by the Broncos 2nd round pick, so it't probably a moot point anyways.

Ansah will be a top 15 pick. IMO, he might have moved himself up to the #1 DE in the draft. The problem with Hunt is his experience. He has all the metrics and could be a very good DE in a few years, but he has zero instsincts as evidenced by his performance at the Senior Bowl. He would be a decent 3rd round pick, but someone will take him sooner. My guess is he goes to a 3-4 team and is bulked up to play 5-tech

The crazy thing about Hunt's strength is that he repped that much with those long arms. The team that signs his first contract post rookie deal will reap the majority of the benefits.

Hunt has my undivided attention on draft day. If we play it safe in round 1 then I want us to take a risk in round 2. Hunt has very very high reward potential. That speed and power with those very long arms are going to get to QBs, especially with defenders having their hands tied with Von, Dume and Wolfe.
