IMO i would rather pay a high priced Safety who can create TOs. Revis is a copy of Champ, just younger. People avoid him, rather have a play maker.

QBs can, and do, avoid safeties as well.

Some avoid safeties by simply throwing it over them.

Default Darrelle Revis surprised at trade talk

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets general manager John Idzik was introduced to the media Thursday at a late-morning news conference. Three hours later, he was immersed in his first crisis.

While Idzik was getting comfortable in his new office, star cornerback Darrelle Revis, whose name surfaced Wednesday night in reports that said the team is open to trading him, fired off a tweet that raised the intensity level in what looms as an offseason drama.

"I'm speechless by far but more importantly I feel more upset for the jet nation for having to go through this!!!" Revis tweeted. "I guess we'll see how this plays out."

Idzik's new job just got a lot harder.

If he's just another Champ clone, that's...the makings of a first ballot HoF corner.

Yes, every time I see his name I think of The Drive III (which is what it should rightly be called). Tebow basically ran him over.

Anytime a perennial all-pro player position becomes available, it would be foolish not to consider it. Chris Harris is good, but he's no Revis. If the asking price is a first and a third and to make him the highest paid cornerback in the game, that's a bargain.
He's not been island Revis for years now and I never got the hype on him.

And I can almost make a case that Revis is no Harris....who is on the up and up. I would much much much rather go with Harris and 1/3 of the contract that Revis will command and KEEP my draft picks.

And even IF the Broncos are dumb enough to give away a 1st and 3rd what CB has to sit because of Revis? Are you really going to sit Harris? Dare to sit Bailey??? lol Cmon man....just be real here, the Broncos are not even going to consider it.

And besides....everytime I saw the name Revis in the past few years it was linked with him being unhappy about a damn contract. Do we really want that kind of drama here?

Shit, I'd make Chris Harris part of the deal if he were something the Jets were interested in. I like Harris but c'mon, the only thing.......literally the ONLY THING, that makes Harris a better option is the money Revis makes. Harris shouldn't enter the equation any more than Alex Smith would have if SF signed Manning.......

We already have Champ on a big contract. We have Harris on a very reasonable contract but he probably played even better than Champ this year. We have to resign other guys like Clady. We need help with safety more than anything and we could always get Porter at a much better deal anyway.

I sure as hell dont want Revis one year wonder to take time away from my boy Harris, who is a star in the making.
We have plenty of scratch. We had plenty of room under the cap heading into last season and now the offseason. IIRC, this season is the first one with a salary allowed minimum cap. We have to spend money.

Honestly, with the 28th pick, I'd dangle that and a 4th to the Jets and see if they'd bite. Revis would be awesome to have for a 2013 Superbowl run. Once we've won the Superbowl and Champ has retired or moved to Safety, we can talk long term deal with Revis or let him walk. He's not exactly young, but he's an excellent CB who would be a huge addition on a team trying to make a Superbowl run. Peyton doesn't have much time. I'd inquire as to what the Jets want for him...

Nickel packages are pretty much the norm anymore. Carter would be the one to sit...and I'd be ok with that

no shit-- go get him if he's available. . .

fox and JDR clearly want to play a lot of single high safety looks to stop the run, and it's time to admit that champ doesn't have the speed to play man against the league's elite speed receivers without help over the top-- if you can go get a guy that does, do it. . . then move champ to safety, and have the best secondary in a passing league. . .

As long as we dont touch Harris and Champ is willing to move to safety then fine. This would of course include Rahim Moore being part of the trade to the Jets. Id do a first and include Moore with the approval of Bailey being ok with the switch. Thats the only way this would make sense here.

Harris played balls out this year and he's only getting better each day. So he's our future and I dont think its smart to tamper with that. Revis is a damn good CB and we have 18 mill under the cap. But we need help at safety and ILB more than anything....not sure this signing takes care of the need.

I agree. People think the suggestion of Champ to safety is a knock on Champ. Well it isnt, it just means it will give on of the best cover guys much more time to react. Champs played alot of bump and run in his career but he is getting slower, which is why I think FS would be a perfect fit for him.

But I am still ok with Champ as our #1 CB too....and I doubt Champ wants to make the switch. The only this makes sense is if we traded for Revis.
