Default Peyton Writes Letters to NFL Retirees

I notice some of you were very impressed that Peyton waited with his family in the locker room for Ray Lewis to talk to him after the game.

I wonder how many of you know that Peyton writes a letter to retirees, congratulating them on their careers and wishing them the best. I have known this for several years, and there was an article about it some time back. I think it was on the occasion of Warren Sapp's retirement, about how impressed he was.

This is a tradition of Peyton's. He is a football historian, loves the game, and has great respect for those who contributed a lot.

I think he got a bit tired of writing Brett Favre. (sic)

Doesn't surprise me. Peyton is the ultimate ambassador of the game.

    Default Peyton Manning: Letter Writer

Peyton Manning's touching practice of writing letters to retired players he has admired is discussed

2009 video - which includes Peyton, and different players, talking about the letters they received:

He was the same guy who sent Carson Palmer a get well card after his ACL/MCL/PCL injury. Very classy man and he is one of the few athletes who knows how blessed he is to play in the NFL. He's a great QB and a great man.

I thought it said "Referees".....and I was thinking that he would have just cause for writing a few refs after that last game

Another reason to admire Manning for a lot more than just his playing ability. The guy's amazing.

He asks them for a signed jersey and then sells it on ebay.

I heard that peytron camps outside animal shelters and after a dog is euthanised he brings it back to life and gives it a new home, and a new flea and tick collar.
