Book called The River by Peter Heller.

I recommended a book of his to chazzy called The Dog Stars, and he still owes it to me to give it a look. Not even a read, but a look.

This new book of his is surprisingly tactile. It makes me think I was spot on when I told chaz to give this guy a read. But I'm also completely fine if it's a total miss. How odd is that?

Finished The River. One hell of a good book. Short, too--only 7 hrs audiobook.

I'd love to talk to someone about it.

    Sounds really interesting! - https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/09/b...ler-river.html

But 7 hours? That will really cut into the time I spend posting on the internet.

Red Storm Rising. I got it on sale on Chirp and then was super confused until I realized it was a radically abridged version--who buys this garbage? (Irony)

But then my hold on the library audiobook came up and now I'm listening to the real deal. And it's still damned good all these years later. The military geek in me forgot how good of a job Clancy did.

I'm gonna check this out next. I took a break from Blood Meridian because I was sick and didn't want to associate it with that. I'm weird when it comes to being sick. There are foods that to this day I can't eat because they were the last thing I ate before I got sick sometime in the past. There are songs I won't listen to for that reason. I know it's a ******* weird mental thing but as soon as I felt this cold coming on I put the book away and didn't pick it up again until today. I should finish by this weekend sometime. I'm trying to read one chapter at a time then sit back and ponder it or review certain sections then take a good long break before I read the next chapter. It's been an interesting experiment for me. I might read more books in this fashion in the future. It seems to help me truly grasp the bigger aspects of the story. For instance, the first time I read this book I didn't even catch all the hinting at the Judge being the actual devil or an agent thereof.
    Let's Rid3!!!!

Rereading the "white company" by Doyle
"We saw it…. the hussars let loose their horses. God, what power! They ran through the smoke and the sound was like that of a thousand blacksmiths beating with a thousand hammers

They rush on to the Swedes! They crash into the Swedish riters…. Overwhelm them! They crash into the second regiment - Overwhelmed! Resistance collapses, dissolves, they move forward as easily as if they were parading on a grand boulevard

I will. I interrupted my reading of it with that of the rational male by rollover tomassi which is itself pretty good so far. Smart man-kindof labor intensive read in that regard

The Institute by King was solid but lost a bit of steam at the end--still, good.
