    You're so generous OB.
No idea on shipping costs though...quite a lot I would imagine, probably better for me to look out for a cheap second hand kindle on ebay for keeps.

After Dog Stars I read (actually listened to) a "thriller" called Broken Harbor by Nicci French. I want those hours back, I could have done something productive like play with myself.

Now I'm on Justin Cronin's The Passage. It's fine so far, maybe a rung down from Del Toro's books, but not awful.

Dog Stars is still kind of ricocheting around my head.

If I read a really, really good book I take a little while before I start another because it stays with me and I know the next one will pale in comparison. When i read Cutting for Stone - I didnt pick up another book for a month. For some reason that is just one of my favorite books ever.

Hawg, I remember you talking about how you're into bombs and shit once. Do you have any recommendations for books about hiroshima/nagasaki/manhattan project?

If you haven't already, read "The Making of the Atomic Bomb" by Richard Rhodes.

I have some others, but there is no question which is the best.

Just finished "The Passage" by Iowa Writer's Workshop alum Justin Cronin. First of trilogy. "Vampire" apocalypse. More similar to It, Swan Song, and The Stand than the Del Toro vamp apocalypse trilogy, but both are worthwhile. Epic, expeditionary, dark. A bit lacking on true psychological terror, but enough mind-fodder that you can't call it shallow. Good book.

Finished some candy, "Hold Me Closer, Necromancer." Lish McBride. It wasn't a total waste, kinda fun, but wouldn't recommend.

I've got 8 hours left on my drive, can't figure out to continue with Cat's Cradle or some shorts by Alice Munro.

    Still muddling through Cat's Cradle.

While waiting for Vonnegut to grab me, I read a novel called Spin by Robert Charles Wilson. Some clever ideas in this one. It will make the next starry night a bit richer.

Also starting in on "The Tiger."

Outside a remote village in Russia’s Far East a man-eating tiger is on the prowl. The tiger isn’t just killing people, it’s murdering them, almost as if it has a vendetta.
