So, the player and the school concoct this story to generate media attention. Ok...I get doctoring things up to get more publicity. But this? Wow.
Wow. I had never heard anything about this. That is, well, crazy. If all that's true I hope it gets exposed a lot wider than dead spin.
Notre Dame statement:
"On Dec. 26, Notre Dame coaches were informed by Manti Te’o and his parents that Manti had been the victim of what appears to be a hoax in which someone using the fictitious name Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukemia. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax. While the proper authorities will continue to investigate this troubling matter, this appears to be, at a minimum, a sad and very cruel deception to entertain its perpetrators."
Seems fishy to me. I find it hard to believe that Teo was completely fooled by all of this, especially since he supposedly met her in person originally. What a bizarre story.
The family didn't know. They only knew what Te'o told them.
Man, you guys are slow. Here, let me break it down for you.
Te’o and Tuiasosopo are gay lovers. They created a fictional girlfriend as a cover. Their families started getting suspicious (no one ever saw the chick or talked to her), so they killed her off to buy a little more time.
