I have reached a new level of elitism where I rarely have time for such petty indulgences like a 2 hour fictional movie.

Buff, there's at least 8 Coen Bros movies that are better than O Brother Where Art Thou

There are a few but not 8. No Country, Fargo, TBL, True Grit, Barton Fink and maybe Millers Crossing could be argued. But they're all such great movies it's just a subjective discussion of taste unlike say arguing that Deep Blue Sea is a better film than Jaws which is just a fools errand.

O' Brother is a fantastic mix of comedy, action, adventure, cinematography, and music. IMHO it's the best mix of those ingredients of all the Coen Bros. films, which does not necessarily make it their best movie but it is definitely one of their most rewatchable. Maybe the best soundtrack of all time too.

O Brother is overrated, but it is a good movie. As for best soundtrack of all time, Guardians of The Galaxy and Dazed & Confused say hello.

Has anyone seen Brotherhood of the Wolf? Based on actual events that happened in the French countryside during the turn of the century? I thought that was a pretty descent film.

I agree that Godfather was a little slow, but great screenplay and overall good film.

    What about Platoon?

I like O Brother, but compared to the rest of the Coens stuff it just seems like one of their less good ones.

The ones I think are definitely better than O Brother:

    No Country for Old Men
    Raising Arizona
    A Serious Man
    Big Lebowski
    Blood Simple
    Fargo
    The Man Who Wasn't There
    Burn After Reading
    True Grit

Barton Fink is pretty much neck and neck with O Brother IMO. I've yet to see Inside Llewyn Davis and Miller's Crossing though.

Over the last few days I decided to watch the handful of Coen brothers movies i'd never seen, so here's my rankings:

    1. No Country for Old Men
    2. Raising Arizona
    3. True Grit
    4. A Serious Man
    5. The Big Lebowski
    6. Fargo
    7. The Man Who Wasn't There
    8. Burn After Reading
    9. Intolerable Cruelty
    10. Miller's Crossing
    11. Inside Llewyn Davis
    12. The Hudsucker Proxy
    13. Barton Fink
    14. O Brother Where Art Thou
    15. Blood Simple
    16. The Ladykillers

I think 1-6 are perfect and 7-15 are all varying degrees of good-great. Ladykillers is about as average as a movie could be though. Moral of the story is the Coens basically can't miss.
