Default Peyton Is Perfect Against Bengals

No, not his performance on the field. In a game where Manning threw not just one, but two interceptions - one of them in the Red Zone for a touchback - to a team that had zero before today, Peyton wasn't perfect as far as his quarterback play was concerned.

Due to his shaky play earlier in the game, Manning had to extend 4th quarter comeback streak to 48. After his two turnovers positioned Cincy to take the lead, Manning would throw two touchdown passes in the 4th to regain the lead and win the game.

Denver's defense played pretty sound, but on the two drives that the Bengals had from Manning's turnovers, Champ Bailey was beat badly on more than one occasion by A. J. Green - once for a touchdown. However, on the drive that followed Denver going up 24-20, Dalton the Red (aka Andy Dalton) threw a deep pass to Green that was picked by Champ, giving the ball back to Denver. It was on this last drive that Manning threw his second touchdown pass and essentially put the game away with just a little over three minutes remaining.

It wasn't as pretty as the beat down the Broncos gave the Saints last week, but it kept the Broncos a game ahead of second place San Diego and put the Broncos two games over .500 on the first weekend in November - which is the first time since 2009 (when they were 6-1) that their record has been that good this early.

Peyton Manning made some mistakes today, but after extending his record against Cincinnati to 8-0, he remains perfect against the Bengals.

    The good stuff:

    1. Peyton Manning - After winning the AFC Offensive Player-of-the-Month for October, he started his November in similar fashion. As mentioned above, Manning's 4th quarter comeback was the 48th of his stellar career, which gave him the lead in that category. He was tied with Hall-of-Famer Dan Marino at 47 going in to today's game. He threw three touchdowns in the game - the fifth game in a row he accomplished that feat.
    2. Eric Decker - There was some concern about how effective Denver wide receivers would be playing for a quarterback of Manning's caliber after years of mediocre performance from the quarterback position. Decker is putting those concerns to rest. He was only one yard shy of 100 yards receiving, caught two touchdowns for a second game in a row (third time this season), and extended his streak to five consecutive games with a touchdown.
    3. Trindon Holliday - Brought to the team just a few weeks ago after being cut by the Houston Texans, his 105 yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the second half set a franchise record.
    4. Red Zone and Goal-to-go efficiency - Manning did have the one interception, but the team went 3-4 in the Red Zone, all touchdowns on Peyton Manning passes. It wasn't that long ago that this team settled for field goals in those situations.
    5. Third downs - Both the offense and defense did very well on third downs. The offense 9 of 14 (64%) and the defense kept the Bengals to only 5 of 14 (35%).

    The not-so-good stuff:

    1. Peyton Manning - Two interceptions. While it's reassuring to know that Manning got the job done in the fourth quarter, his two interceptions were directly responsible for putting the team behind in the first place.
    2. Running game - The usually effective running game of the Broncos only managed 68 net rushing yards. Passing this year has became more necessary because the team has frequently found itself behind, but the Broncos are beginning to show a real struggle to run the ball when they need it. Going in to today's game, the rushing attack of the Broncos was ranked 17th.
    3. Dropped passes - I counted 4 drops by the Broncos receivers. When you consider that Manning only had 8 incomplete passes, drops accounted for 50% of them.
    4. Champ Bailey - By his own admission, he was beat badly today by A. J. Green, once for a touchdown.

Offensive player-of-the-game: Eric Decker - for the reasons mentioned above.

Defensive player-of-the-game: Von Miller - Three sacks, enough said.

Bonus stat: With his two touchdown catches today, Eric Decker has 16 touchdowns, which is the most for a Broncos receiver in his first three seasons. He surpasses Brandon Marshall and Rod Smith, who had 15 each.

Like i said, if Decker and Thomas can be half as good as Eddie Mac and Rod than we are golden.
