Nah, it's just that people have different tastes. You can ask 10 Star Wars fans to rank the films and get ten different answers. And even those change over time. I used to rank Empire low when I was a kid because it was the most "boring" and now it's my favorite. The only thing I can't stand about Star Wars fandom is how they won't shut the **** up about what they don't like. They still talk about Ewoks and The Prequels like those things killed their mothers or something. I find it easy to take what I like and ignore what I don't like about the saga, I think every one of the movies adds something of value.
So....alright. I didn't hate it. But, it was a mess. The pacing was terrible in the first half of the movie. Too many story lines with too little time spent developing each story line. You couldn't be overly interested in anything because it was there one moment, gone the next. The movie didn't hit its stride until the strands of narrative condensed into 2-3 strands and more focus was spent on each individual story.
Bottom line, it wasn't terrible. I would put it behind TFA and ahead of the prequels though. It could have been so much more with better pacing at the beginning of the movie.
Let's Rid3!!!!
The more I stew on this one the less I like it. Maybe my second least favorite behind episode 1.
Let's Rid3!!!!
******* loved it!
I'm not sure how I feel about it. I didn't hate it. The last half of the movie was amazing and I loved it. But the first half of the movie...oh my god it was painful. The first half of the movie really poisoned my view of the movie as a whole. I think I like it, but I dunno, I may need to see it 2-3 more times.
I didn't see the prequels and I saw the original 3 when I was little, so I don't compare it to other movies. There were some bad spots to it, but overall i loved it.
Did you all dress in your Star Wars garb to go watch the movie?
We're going on the 23rd or 24th.
Oh and by the way.
So I got to see it yesterday and I’m kinda torn. I thought it was much better than Force Awakens. It definitely went in a direction that I didn’t expect (I’d been shielding myself from spoilers and reviews so I wouldn’t have any pre-conceived opinions).
It left a lot of directions open for the next movie to go.

Just a note moving forward I am not using spoiler tags. The movie has been out all weekend and big fans have either seen it or know better than to come in here. The damn title has Spoilers tagged in the title. Save the spoiler tags for if you post in the general movie review forum or elsewhere.
This seems to be the general consensus from long time fans of the series (i.e. old dudes like us) that the first viewing is very confusing and hard to judge. Part of it for me is that I went in spoiler free and I did kind of have in my head how I thought it should go and that was challenged at every turn.
The only thing I knew after watching it the first time that I liked some stuff and I really hated some stuff. A subsequent viewing made me realize the cool stuff was REALLY cool and it was easy to ignore the crap like the casino planet and super Leia. I still think the movie is too long. Getting rid of the Canto Bight sequence would have done wonders. Basically all it did was preach that war is bad and give them a chance to meet the kids who would be inspired by the rebellion after they visited.
Speaking of... soooo it's not the Resistance anymore? When the hell did they start using the Rebel logo and calling themselves Rebels?
Anyway (and I AM NOT comparing the two movies in quality) this film reminds me of what it must have been like to see The Empire Strikes Back for the first time. I remember it vaguely as a child and thinking it was no fun, too dark, and I hated the slow parts on Dagobah. Depending on how they finish things out, The Last Jedi might retroactively become a classic. As it stands it is better than The Force Awakens but has some serious issues that keep it from standing on it's own. I love the opening sequence with the bombers and pretty much everything from the Snoke throne room battle on.
