Yeah when you overthink it you start sounding like me.

Slick I'm only a casual fan, I loved it!

I might even go see it again.

    It's definitely worth four bucks

Massive Death Star... oh you've got to be kidding me!

The new characters are honestly what made the film for me, but the pandering in some scenes became grating after awhile. There was stuff in the movie that Lucas would have been crucified for (like the whole monster chase aboard Han Solo's freighter) that just seemed out of place.

I always felt truly great sequels should take the structure of the original but push things in a new direction. The best sequels always do this. Terminator 2, Aliens, Empire Strikes Back... they respected the source but added to the mythology.

All true and this is how i feel about it. Its a decent movie but very far from great but because its Star Wars it made a shitload of money.

I'm not experienced enough in Star Wars to understand.

I still think Finn is the other black guy's (Lando) son, and Leia's age fits her.

To be honest i dont think its really even about overthinking it, all the parallels you spoke of are obvious so there is really anything to overthink. I just think they played it extremely safe.

*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

I like it. I think in some ways it's akin to the new Star Trek's. It's a variation of the story we've seen, and it honors the Star Trek's of the past, but does it in a slightly new way. In the case of Star Wars, they didn't retell the story, but used a similar nostalgic, as pointed out, approach to telling the story of a new generation of people fighting the dark side, but doing it by honoring the movies that people loved.

Yes, having the repeat characters (orphan kid, villein in a mask, twins separated at birth -- one possibility, we shall see, etc) might be nostalgic, but no more so than the multiple batman reboots, or the multiple Star trek movies/series and what I think is great Abrams reboot of the series. I think this is light years ahead of episodes 1-3, but art is subjective, and everyone sees it a little different.

We watched the 3D version, and I liked it enough that I'll buy the 3D bluray when it comes out, which I rarely do. I have only a handful of 3D blurays. Normally, I just **cough** **cough** buy **cough** **cough** UV codes for movies and never get discs.
