The uproar over this is only by those who don't like Tebow, or who do not understand why he did it.

If thats the case, and I believe that is probably true, then this is no reason for anyone to get upset at Tebow.

here is the quote, I was unaware that you had to have a buisness purpose to file a trademark, but if the money is going to charity no big deal.

The devout Christian says his representatives filed on his behalf not for financial gain, but "to just control how it's used, make sure it's used in the right way." Tebow did say sometime down the road the money would go to his Tim Tebow Foundation.

Tebow, though, will have to be careful. He might have trouble maintaining possession of the trademarks if he doesn't prove he has any intention to use them for business purposes

Since it involves his name, I doubt anyone else could get the trademark on it, even if he never uses it.

you are most likely right, but I think if he didn't file at all it could be awarded to someone else. I think how a trademark works is you file it, other people have 30 days to argue the trademark and if noone argue it is awarded. Looks like Tebows lawyers stepped in at the argue the trademark phase, then locked up the trademark to keep it from happening again. I don't see an issue, but I am sure it will be seen as money grubbing and hypocritical by those who want to see it that way

Although I haven't read it anywhere and I am totally making it up. But I would guess Tebow either donates all the money from this to a church in some form, so give the guy a break.

    Thanks MasterShake!!!

Some people are blinded by their unbridled hatred of Tebow, as well as hatred toward anyone who likes him.

Oh I got issues, but hating Tebow ain't one of them.

I'm just being honest, if Phylis Rivers does the same thing Teebs did he'd be a pariah. It's not as though he patented something he started, like LeRoy Butler with the Lambeau Leap, people have been kneeling in prayer forever.......most people don't seek out a tv camera before they do it, though.

And this whole "I had no idea this was happening" is complete and utter bullshit, I doubt it's even possible to obtain a patent in somebody else's name.......

I posted an article that had a partial list of athletes with trademarks associated with them...there are literally hundreds. Jeremy Lin is currently in the process of trademarking "Linsanity" this is not even a newsworthy event except that it whips the frothing Tebow haters into a frenzy

but its the same point. Its alright to do it if you don't like him, but if someone insults someone you like, then its "hatred."
