Default dbfan2007's too early mock 2013

    Trade 2nd pick for 3rd and 4th

    1 Xavier Rhodes*,
    CB, Florida State
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 215.

    OR

    Johnthan Banks,
    CB, Mississippi State
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 185.

I want an MLB but Te'o is the probably the only one worth taking in the first two rounds. I believe he will probably be a top 15 pick and out of our range. Champ is aging and if anything happens to him our CB group would be in bad shape. I like Rhodes, but if he's gone I'd settle for Banks.

    3 Michael Mauti,
    MLB, Penn State
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 239.

The defense needs a solid player and a leader at MLB. I believe Mauti can do that.

    3 Sharrif Floyd*,
    DT, Florida
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 301.

    OR

    Kwame Geathers,
    DT, Georgia
    Height: 6-6. Weight: 350.

We still need help clogging the middle. I like Floyd, but I'm not sure if he'll enter the draft. If he stays, Kwame Geathers is the next man up.

    4 Mike Taylor,
    OLB, Wisconsin
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 222.

Taylor would be a good role player for our LB core. He shouldn't get in trouble.

    Trey Burton*,
    FB/RB/QB/Towel Boy/Etc, Florida
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 229.

If Burton stays he may have a breakout senior season. If he comes out, I'd take a chance on him. He's played almost every position on an offense besides offensive lineman. He would be a very versatile player who could find success with Manning.

    OR

    Rex Burkhead,
    RB, Nebraska
    Height: 5-11. Weight: 210.

Burkhead is projected higher by some and undrafted by others. He's hard to judge. If Burton is still at Florida, I take Burkhead. In an ideal situation, hopefully he's still there in the later rounds. He and Hillman could make a good combination.

    5 Conner Vernon,
    WR, Duke
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 195.

Vernon is probably my favorite player in this draft. He took over the ACC records for career receptions and yards. He's played in David Cutcliffe's pro style offense. The same one Manning ran at Tennessee. Vernon could be a long term Brandon Stokley type WR.

    6 Prentiss Waggner,
    CB/S, Tennessee
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 185.

Maybe a homer pick here. I've seen Waggner projected at a 3-4 round player at CB or S. I've also seen him listed as undrafted. He's struggled at times, but he hasn't had any help with Tennessee's DB core. He's played at S and CB whenever they've needed him. I haven't heard him complain. A lot of guys would be worried about their draft stock instead of helping our where he can.

    7 DeVonte Holloman,
    OLB, South Carolina
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 241.

    OR

    Cameron Lawrence,
    OLB, Mississippi State
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 230.

There aren't many seventh round players I have. Hopefully if we lose a pick, it's this one. I'd draft Holloman or Lawrence to bring them into camp. Maybe they can help on special teams or the practice squad just in case half of our LBers get suspended.

    *underclassmen

If possible, I'd trade DJ Williams for possibly a fourth. How he plays if he ever gets back from suspension will determine his trade value.

Love the first 2 picks. Rhodes/Banks and Mauti would be great

I would like to see use trade up Te'o. Watching the cost to trade up last season. I would not mind throwing in a 4th to get him.

    Draft Wish List
    1) J. Williams, DT Bama 2) R. Swope, WR, T A&M
    3) DJ. Swearinger, S Bama 4) M. Lattimore, RB SC
    5) T. Mathiu, LSU, CB/S 6) NONE
    7) M. Mauti, ILB Penn St.

If we could trade our first and fourth to get into position to get Te'o, I'd love it.

last draft I was shocked the later rounds used to trade up. Several 4th were thrown around to move middle of 1st round and then later 1st rounder 5ths were used (like us). Only top 10 had some big trades.

I'm sitting here watching James Casey, wondering if Trey Burton could be use the same way.

We keep playing like we did on Sunday and we won't have to trade up.

How much experience has Burton had playing QB at Florida? From the stats I were able to find, it looks like he's only thrown a handful of passes in college and has mostly been used as an "offensive specialist".

He'd be an interesting option for our offense, if we were able to pick him up. He could play FB/HB/TE and possibly save us a roster spot on a #3 QB by making him the "emergency #3 QB".

I was starting to advocate for the Broncos to draft Collin Klein for this type of role, but Burton may have the better upside and has less of an injury history.

If Burton can come in and be used in a multitude of packages on offense along with getting some QB tutoring from Manning WITHOUT having to waste another roster spot on another QB, that would be very wise.

If Burton can't grasp the mental aspects of being an NFL QB, it's no problem. He could still be used elsewhere.
If he picks up the game at QB and develops enough to challenge Osweiler a few years from now, we could have a steal.

At the very least, Burton could be another option on our offensive packages. The potential to develop, as a QB, is just the icing on the cake.

I think he was recruited as a QB and has since been only use as FB/H Back type of player. Personally, I think he might stay another year. If healthy, he would improve his stock. I hear he is improving as a blocker. He has the ability to break out a big play. As for QB, he probably wouldn't be very reliable. But I do see what you're saying. IF Manning and Oz goes down. Then after that game we would obviously have to sign someone. I don't see that being a problem since some coaches prefer only 2 QBs. I think it was Shanahan that did that.

Exactly. A lot of people may not remember this, but when Shanahan was still with us, Rod Smith was our "emergency QB" for a lot of seasons and we would only carry 2 QB's, with one occasionally on the PS.

I was watching an interview earlier today and in the interview, the reporter mentioned that Burton was regarded by Urban Meyer as having a "very high football IQ" when he first came to Florida. Although he hasn't played much QB in college, he was recruited as one and apparently has the matching IQ needed. Burton's an interesting prospect because he has the athleticism, football IQ and "intangibles" needed to be a pro QB, but he would definitely need more game time under center before that could be determined.

If he could be brought in as an offensive weapon for Manning, while at the same time, use pre-season action and some scout team snaps to see where he's measures up at QB, he could potentially be a big find.

Regardless, he'd be an upgrade over some of the other offensive skill players we have on the team now in raw ability (Ball, Gronkowski).

That would be high hopes. At the very least, I see him as a skill player that can be moved around on the offense.

There are a couple online videos of him passing in high school.

I talked to my buddy from Wisconsin. He's pretty good at giving me an unbiased opinion.

He says Mike Taylor could make a good Weakside linebacker. He's average on coverage. He's good against the run. He's smart and doesn't overpursue. Taylor and Borland may be Wisconsins best LB tandem ever. Borland is the MLB but Taylor is moved to Mike on passing downs.

He says Taylor would be a second rounder at best. Probably third. Fourth rounder if the team keeps playing horrible.

Words about Michael Mauti, MLB Penn St.

"holding together Penn States D single handedly and he has leadership skills up the wazoo."

I totally agree. Wouldn't hurt to try him out at QB though, too.
