The Blues are horrible and their fans are horrible. Living around STL is unbearable when the Cardinals are good, and the Blues making it to the finals is even worse.

Still, the toyed with the Sharks the last couple of games. Scoring wise they seem to match up well with Boston.

Default Chambers: Avalanche aiming to select the draft’s best defenseman and top goalie

Expect the Avalanche to select defenseman Bowen Byram and goaltender Spencer Knight in the first round of Friday night’s NHL draft.

    If they’re available, that is.

Colorado has the Nos. 4 and 16 overall picks at this year’s event in Vancouver, British Columbia, plus three others in the first three rounds and eight overall. Rounds 2-7 are Saturday at Rogers Place.

Byram, a 6-foot-1 Canadian for major-junior’s Vancouver Giants, is the draft’s top-ranked defenseman. Knight, a 6-foot-4 American for the U.S. National Development Program (committed to Boston College), is rated No. 1 among draft-eligible goaltenders. Both 18-year-olds are considered potential NHL franchise cornerstones.

    4. Colorado Avalanche (from Ottawa) - Bowen Byram, LHD, Vancouver (WHL)

Skilled, confident and mean are the three things that come to mind when watching him play. He's been a real leader on the ice for the WHL's Vancouver Giants and seemed to log over 30 minutes a game in the playoffs. First defender in WHL history to lead the playoffs in scoring. Big shot, smooth skater and agile, and aggressive in the offensive zone

    16. Colorado Avalanche - Alex Newhook, C, Victoria (BCHL)

He dominated the BCHL as top scorer and league MVP. Could easily have crushed Canadian major junior but wanted to keep his NCAA eligibility to play for Boston College. Deadly in open ice and can finish in a variety of ways. His execution below the hash marks is near-perfect, but he can also wire it home from either circle. A real offensive force.

Default Trade: Avalanche clear space for free agency; Coyotes get Soderberg

Are the Colorado Avalanche loading up for a big free agent push this summer, or are they merely worried about how much it will cost to re-sign RFA star Mikko Rantanen? Or is it a little of both?

Such thoughts come to mind with Tuesday’s trade, as the Avalanche send center Carl Soderberg to the Arizona Coyotes. It’s largely a cash-clearing deal from Colorado’s perspective, considering the current details reported by The Athletic’s Craig Morgan, TSN’s Darren Dreger, and others:

Coyotes receive: Soderberg, a 33-year-old forward whose $4.75 million cap hit expires after 2019-20.

Avalanche receive: Kevin Connauton, 29-year-old defenseman, whose $1.375M cap hit expires after 2019-20. Also, the Avalanche receive a 2020 third-round pick.

One team clears cap room, the other profits

This event will mark the second NHL outdoor game in the state of Colorado, as the Avalanche hosted the Detroit Red Wings at Coors Field in Denver on Feb. 27, 2016. It will be the first outdoor game in Air Force's history and the second to be held at a United States service academy. The Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs played at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, on March 3, 2018.

Soderberg pissed me off so much during the playoffs (not as much as Kerfoot) that I would've been happy if the Coyotes sent a bag of used practice pucks to the Avs for Carl. At least they got a third line defenseman and a pick for him. I'll consider that a victory.

Default ‘Big, Fast’ Andre Burakovsky Headed To Denver: Avalanche Trade For Capitals Forward

DENVER (CBS4) – The Colorado Avalanche announced Friday that the team has acquired forward Andre Burakovsky from the Washington Capitals in exchange for forward Scott Kosmachuk, plus a second and third round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Burakovsky appeared in 76 games for the Capitals in the 2018-2019 season and tallied 25 points. He helped Washington capture its first Stanley Cup Championship in 2017-18, recording six points in 13 postseason games.

Default Avalanche signs Joonas Donskoi from the San Jose Sharks

The Avalanche opened NHL free agency Monday by signing Finnish forward Joonas Donskoi, who has played each of his four previous years in the NHL with the San Jose Sharks.

Donskoi’s four-year contract is worth $15.6 million with Colorado, the team said.

Donskoi, 27, is a needed right-shot winger; the Avs had only centers Nathan MacKinnon and J.T. Compher who shoot from the right side. Donskoi produced 14 goals for the Sharks in each of the last two years. He has 45 career goals in 243 games.

What's with Colorado picking up a plethora of third-line caliber players? Broussard, dude from the Caps, and Donskoi. Where's the contract for Mikko?

They haven't signed him. That was a speculative article regarding the potential future contract. He's officially a restricted free agent as of today.
