Default Avs Goalies Play Well in Season-Opening Loss

    from article:

Semyon Varlamov and Reto Berra finished with a combined 43 saves vs. the Wild

"I have a lot more to worry about than our goaltenders right now," said head coach Patrick Roy, who pointed to his team's compete level and offensive troubles after the game as areas that need to be fixed before it faces the Wild again in less than 48 hours.

Varly shouldn't be any kind of a problem right now. He played great and made some great saves in flurries. If any other goalie was playing it could have been 10-0. I have never seen a one sided onslaught like that before ever in the NHL. It was just sorry. It looked like an NHL team wsa playing a college team.

I am hoping the problem so far in preseason, and last night, is the new players fitting in. I also hope that losing Stastny to the Blues is not leaving a big void, as Paul played great last year. He also scored a goal in the Blue's 3-2 loss last night.

I personally don't think the players we got over the preseason fit in and I will just leave it at that.

We should have 2 of the better top 2 lines in the NHL. One (whichever one was out there) got completely dominated by Minnesota's blue line the entire game, and the other couldn't even hold fort against Minnesota's other line. There's absolutely no chemistry among the top 6 right now. The best player I thought on the ice last night was Everberg.

To me some of the more concerning issues have gone back to the playoff series last year. We show no willingness to work hard in the defensive zone. We don't shoot the puck. We pass up shot after shot after shot because we're waiting for that pretty goal, and then we don;t even get an opportunity on offensive because we lose possession. The most glaring thing is Volorado's inability to control anything between the blue lines. Minnesota completely controlled the flow of the game and the style that was played. They are either built to be Colorado's kryptonite, or they have implanted a blueprint on how to slow them down.

I don't care who you're goalie is. You aren't winning any games when you're giving up 48 shots a game. Just ridiculous.

The B's suck so far this year so he probably saw it coming anyway.

Yeah, we really suck this year. So far anyway. Not being able to resign Iginla hurts our 1st line bad.

How does he look for Colorado? I wasn't able to watch today's game.

So far not good but he needs time to build chemistry with his line mates know Roy settles on a good line combo.

I don't follow the other teams in hockey but do other coaches shuffle the lines around as much as Roy does? Or is that just how hockey is?

Everyone does that and they're dumb if they don't, especially with so many new key players (Briere, Iginla, Tangs since he missed most of last year). Some coaches do it too much though and it becomes a bad thing, like Joe Sacco.

Default Reto Berra out with injury against Ottawa, Calvin Pickard takes over

KANATA, Ontario — Bad goalie luck continued for the Avalanche on Thursday night when backup goalie Reto Berra suffered an apparent head or neck injury in the first period against Ottawa.

He was replaced by Calvin Pickard, who was an emergency call-up from the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League after starting goalie Semyon Varlamov was placed on injured reserve with a groin injury.

Don't know how much of this team I can watch. Never thought a Patrick Roy type team would have major parts of games where it just plays uninspiring, unmotivated, no effort, and just look like they flat out don;t care.

Default Avs' Semyon Varlamov's ex-girlfriend claims years of abuse in lawsuit

The ex-girlfriend of Semyon Varlamov has filed a lawsuit claiming the Avalanche goalie beat and humiliated her for years before his arrest in October 2013.

The civil lawsuit, filed in Denver District Court on Monday, details years of alleged abuse during which Evgeniya Vavrinyuk claims Varlamov repeatedly beat her with closed fists, pulled and dragged her by her hair and kicked her. Vavrinyuk, 24, is seeking unspecified damages for her loss of income, injures and humiliation caused by the abuse.
Varlamov's attacks happened after he c onsumed large amounts of alcohol and he always expressed remorse afterward, according to the complaint. He first attacked Vavrinyuk in a cab in Russia in November 2012 after he drank too much at dinner, the suit said.

So, the lawsuit claims years of abuse; however the suit states that he first attacked her in a cab in Russia in November 2012. She had him arrested in Denver in October 2013, so where are the years of abuse, and what did the cab driver do when she says he first attacked her in a cab in Russia??????

Boy - do I smell nothing but $$$$$$$$ behind this lawsuit
